FAQs about hotels in Glasgow

Fun-Loving and Forward Thinking

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. Not to be missed are the futuristic-looking Glasgow Science Centre and the eclectic exhibits at the Kelvingrove.

Lined with Georgian buildings, George Square is the city’s focal point and the spot for Glasgow Hogmanay celebrations. Fanning out from here are streets housing venues for the city’s main love: music. From classical concerts to up-and-coming bands, every taste is catered for.

As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.

Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

Glasgow's a peaceful enough little city, with some good countryside and things to find like publicly accessible wind turbine, some museums and parks, and would be a nice place to live, though not quite as exciting to visit as, say, Edinburgh close-by.

We stayed at Ibis Styles Glasgow Central, very close to the city center. Clean, well-kept, comfortable accommodation. After check in, we visited the city during our 5-day stay, going to Green Park, where we saw Nelson's Monument - erected in 1807, in honor of the victories obtained by Admiral Nelson, the statue of James Watt, next to which I found a bench dedicated to the "After life" series, donated by Netflix, the Terracotta Fountain and the People's Castle, which was unfortunately closed. The next day I discovered the Police Museum with the help of my wife. A very instructive place with a lot of documentation. Both curators are very well informed and full of passion. For the meal, we chose the Mharsanta restaurant. A very good choice - a warm place, with traditional dishes, with people full of hospitality and willing to share local dishes with you. I visited George Square, impressive because of what it offers and Botanical Garden. It is easy to travel, using the bus or the train. We regret not staying longer, but next time we already know what we will visit!

I felt safe at night when walking around the city centre, people were nice and hospitable, ready to recommend places to visit. Mostly spent my time at SEC for a convention, which is super easy to get to, though requires some time if you're not in the city centre. Cocktails are cheap, good Indian food is everywhere, and even if you're looking for alternative fashion or geeky stuff, Glasgow is a good place to go shopping in.

The way that Clayton hotels had adapted and repurposed a heritage listed building and the linkage between the older and newer parts. Its location was also a selling point overlooking the Clyde and close to the City Centre facilities and Glasgow Central station. Breakfast was well worth it, well prepared with a good selection. The room was broadly good with everything we needed (but see below), good to have an iron, kettle etc.
