Green is hands-down my favorite color. It’s the color of my purse, work bag, living room, living room sofa, and just about everything else in my sphere. To say I about died when I first saw the new KitchenAid Evergreen 5-quart Artisan stand mixer with walnut wood bowl would be an understatement, and now, I can finally talk about it.
Every year, KitchenAid comes out with a Design Series color that taps into what’s hot and popular — like a bold pink a few years ago, a buttery yellow, or whatever currently catches the eye of designers and the masses. This year, however, they went a step further and made a walnut bowl to match the feeling of the mixer, and the resulting product is so absolutely stunningly gorgeous that you just might faint. It is also one of the best mixers on the market, and easily the most popular baking appliance and the most beloved, so to say this bad boy will have all the foodies swooning is putting it mildly.
I have had my (green apple — natch) Artisan tilt-head 5-quart stand mixer for 20 years. Even after abusing it thrice weekly, it works like the day I got it, and the only maintenance that it has ever required is changing the gear grease. My Artisan, like the new one, has a tilting head, 10-speeds, a paddle attachment, a whip, and a dough hook. I upgraded to a scraping paddle some years back, and I suggest everyone who makes a lot of sticky batters do the same. Seeing as how you can make nine dozen cookies at a time, that’s a ton of batter.
The new Evergreen mixer, however, has a deep brown wood bowl that has me in a chokehold and gold accent pieces that make the whole thing look like it was made for a magazine or show kitchen. Joke’s on them, though; it’s not much more than a regular KitchenAid Artisan, so it’s going to end up in my very-much-not-showpiece kitchen.
Honestly, I may never use the bowl; it’s just too pretty. It’s practically art all on its own. How could I ever mix up batches of no-bake cookies in it? OK, that’s a huge lie. I’m going to use it so much. Like, all the time. And I am going to post it on Instagram every single use. You know you want to, too. Join me in my madness.
