Cold Case Task Force

Cold Cases

The Cold Case Task Force is responsible for the investigation of all cold case homicides within Bergen County. A murder investigation is deemed a cold case once all leads have been exhausted and the case remains open and unsolved after a period of three years. The task force currently has 99 cold cases that it will ultimately investigate.

The Cold Case Task Force consists of one BCPO Major Crimes Unit Detective Sergeant, one on-loan Detective Sergeant from the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, and one New Jersey State Trooper. A specially designated Assistant Prosecutor, appointed by the Bergen County Prosecutor, serves as legal advisor to the task force. The task force was formed in 2018 by the Chief of Detectives in collaboration with the command staff of the New Jersey State Police and the Attorney General’s Office. The formation was to address the need for a full-time squad that would be solely dedicated to the reconstitution of cold case homicides that occurred in Bergen County. The task force will continue with its investigative mission in the hope that more cases will be successfully solved.
