Britain's first Black feature film has been restored
A restored version of Britain's first ever Black feature film from the 1970s has been unveiled at joint world premieres at festivals both in New York and London. The film, which is called Pressure, was released in 1975 and it shows the experience of multiple generations of an immigrant family through the lens of their Black identity, their struggles and joys. It was made by one of Britain's most influential filmmakers, Sir Horace Ové who died in September. The film is not just a historical artefact but also a time capsule of Britain in the 1970s and race relations at that time. It was shot cinema vérité style and has been praised by several critics as a very significant film in British cinema history.
