Young people have been encouraged to visit Bradford's museums and galleries through a series of workshops run by others their age.

The initiative was part of the city's Young Ambassador programme, which aims to help people aged 16 to 25 learn new skills and gain experiences that they can include in future job applications.

This year's participants organised five events at council-run sites, which included activities such as making bookmarks and creating a traditional dastarkhan tablecloth.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, executive member for healthy people and places, said the scheme had been "a great success".

She added: "It is so important to engage young people in the art, history, heritage and culture contained within our museum venues."

The final workshops took place at Bradford Industrial Museum on 8 December.

Young ambassador Imamah said taking part in the scheme had been "such an enjoyable experience".

"My favourite thing has been the amazing people I've got to know," she said.

"Everyone is so friendly and there is so much opportunity to creatively work as a group and take charge of what we do with our time."

Applications have opened for next year's Young Ambassadors programme

Another ambassador, Sofia, said: "I've loved volunteering because I feel like I'm not only engaging with the Bradford community, but my team and I are also helping to give our perspective as young adults on how to get more people engaged with history and museums."

Applications have opened for the next group of Young Ambassadors.
