Park pond project to restart after delays

Work to renovate ponds at Central Park in Plymouth will restart next week after a nine-month hiatus.

The project to improve drainage and create two new ponds in the park began at the end of 2022, but stalled at the end of 2023 due to weather and contractor issues, Plymouth City Council said.

The council said work to complete earth works around the ponds would resume on Tuesday.

However, plans to plant new trees and wildflowers to improve air quality will have to be completed "separately" because of "contractual difficulties", it said.

The council said: "Getting this project done has been a slog and we're sorry but we will get there.

"We are doing our best to get this project finished and enhance the park that we all know and love."

Residents had complained incomplete building work in the park was an eyesore.

The path linking Pounds Park to Central Park will closed for about five weeks, with a diversion around the perimeter of Reservoir Field, the council said.
