The Netball Super League will introduce a two-point super shot for the 2025 season as part of the revamped competition.

The new rule allows shooters to score two points from a dedicated area on the edge of the shooting circle during the last five minutes of each of the four quarters of every match.

The league, the sport's elite domestic competition in the UK, is being reformed from 2025 as part of plans to professionalise the division.

The new NSL season begins on 14 March and one match per week will be shown live on the BBC.

Eight teams, reduced from 10 in previous seasons, will take part in the league and it is hoped the new rule will create closer, more competitive matches by encouraging teams to score points quickly at the end of each quarter.

The super shot was introduced in Australia's Super Netball league - considered the best league in the world - in 2020, but was met with controversy.

Many fans suggested it would change the flow of the game, while some expressed concern about the impact on the international game where the super shot is not in use.

Former Australian Diamond player Caitlin Thwaites said the rule change was an attempt to "grab headlines or new fans", while former England mid-courter Serena Kersten posted on social media saying "we have to find ways to help players to take the game to the next level with skill and athleticism, not mess with the foundations of the game".
