Leonard and Sheat join Glamorgan for Championship games

Glamorgan have signed seamers Ned Leonard and New Zealander Fraser Sheat for the next month of County Championship matches.

Leonard, a 22-year-old fast-medium bowler, joins on loan from Somerset where he made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old.

He has played just three first-class games, but recently featured for Somerset in the One-Day Cup.

He will still be available for Somerset in white-ball cricket.

Canterbury right-arm seamer Sheat has played 33 first class games, taking 103 wickets at an average of just over 25, though is yet to play international cricket.

Glamorgan have five Championship matches remaining in Division Two and have an outside chance of promotion.

Both new signings are available for the game away to Derbyshire, which starts on Thursday, 22 August.

Leonard remains available for the rest of the season, while Sheat has signed for the next three Championship games.

Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace said: "We’re looking forward to Ned joining up with us until the end of the season.

"He’s a talented, young fast bowler with high potential that will add to our fast-bowling stocks for the run in to the end of the County Championship.

“It’s great news that we’ve been able to secure Fraser’s signing.

“He’s got an excellent first-class record in New Zealand and has been in this country playing so hopefully he can hit the ground running as we go into an important stage of the County Championship season.”

Glamorgan seam bowler James Harris is out of action with a leg injury, while Pakistan pace bowler Mir Hamza, who was contracted for the first two months of the Championship season, is in his country’s squad facing Bangladesh.

The county used the same seam attack of Timm van der Gugten, Jamie McIlroy, Andy Gorvin and Dan Douthwaite for all but one of the matches in their run to the One-Day Cup final, and may need to rest players before they face Somerset in the final at Trent Bridge on 22 September.
