Story
Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

A memoir? Brave.
Reviewed: 05-30-24
The honesty was /is profound. As a psychology-type (masters level therapist) I was captivated from the start. It’s true that sociopaths don’t garner much empathy precisely because it wouldn’t be well received (sociopaths wouldn’t “care”) and their lack of response would be off-putting to the empathizer unless it was a caring parent or therapist. Having some experience with a sociopath or two, I’m cautious if I suspect this in someone. The only thing I was hoping for was maybe a venture into the possible causes of sociopathy in someone. But the memoir feels very authentic and courageous. Brava!

What’s the saying: revenge is best served cold?
Reviewed: 03-29-24
Of course you won’t put it together until the end so I recommend listening fast…. It’s a strange story if you’re a night listener and need to relisten to stay with it…. Truth is, I didn’t like it much until the end. Then your own sense of justice (and or revenge) kicks in and your “glad” the bad folks got their comeuppance.

This is my second book of Baier’s and perhaps my favorite! Never mind I attended Grant High school yet never knew how important he was in helping the country heal and in protecting the blacks & their new fragile freedom. Bauer manages to portray the man’s character of strength yet kindness towards not just his family & friends but towards the South & its struggles to manage after the war. Bravo

. Connoly’s a great writer so if you love the Lincoln Lawyer gang and Harry Bosch you’ll love spending time with them all tackling a “lost cause” case like this one. Thoroughly enjoyable!

This is a unique character perspective on himself, Jason Redman. He exposes his character flaws that lead him to almost quitting his life as a SEAL. Very important book for young men in particular but all people can appreciate the acquired wisdom as JR almost loses his life as he gives his all to be the best he can be. This is such a welcome relief to the snowflake students in colleges who are “victims” of every minor comment that comes their way.
