Awesome addition to the series: marvelous escalation of conflicts; excellent development of characters; thrilling foreshadows of the wars yet to come; and absolutely EPIC BATTLES!

Hugo gave us a-lot of buildup about the war for Starevose(sp?) and he did not disappoint at all. Is he a veteran? Some parts of this book reminded me of ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’; the horrors of war written clearly and the chaos of battle saving and ending lives on the edge of a coin flip. And yet some parts put in mind epic poetry and grand tapestries- war glorified in hindsight. A wonderful read all around. Really looking forward to book 6, and I just know I’m going to have to re-read this one when the book comes out. And I’ll enjoy every minute of it once again. For the Haunt!

Nonstop! It just never really stops l, start to finish! From book one even! Excellent conclusion! I thought it couldn’t escalate but dang. I was wrong. I loved the whole trilogy, devoured it in a week. This was awesome. I need to pick up something else quick! This was delicious, but like Evelyn, I’m always hungry for more.

I really like that the action basically didn’t stop from start to finish. Even the pets with a bit of necessary exposition happened mid freaking battle! Eat the babies! Eat the adults too! ADVANCE!

Absolutely love what he’s doing with the villains! Also great progression of both protagonists and antagonists to keep the story alive and driving. Lots of great parts but my favorite part was the end (which is usually an insult but not in this case!); had me on the edge right up to the last SECOND! But not actually a cliff hanger? Still super intense and the score was phenomenal. Great job all around at SBT. Hats off and standing ovation and eagerly anticipating the next one!

Cline perfectly recreated that Video Game Tension - which is distinctly different from book tension, or movie tension. I can't describe it unless you've felt it, but this book has Video Game Tension. And that is what makes it not like other books. this is the only book I've read that has VGT without being a LitRPG novel (although I love those too). This was a great; I don't think I'll read the second one. This is just perfect as is. Worth the credit and satisfying complete ending.

luckily I knew that going in else I would have been hella pissed. I also already own the actual sequel (though I haven't read it) so I could afford to be patient since I knew that as soon as this was over I can jump right back to the village. something to enjoy while doing something else. not really a "sit there for hours and just take it in" kind of book

As a gamer, I feel like I'm playing an actual RPG even though I've had to pull myself away from the console to do other less important things like go to work. I never knew this was even a genre until I read the first book in this series and WOW! Am I glad I started with this one! I wouldn't really know, but I think the bar is set pretty high now. maybe too high. Oh well.
Not just the writing though, but the narrator was VERY impressive. AT many times, especially when he voices women, I couldn't believe he performed this on his own. Exceedingly immersive. The whole thing is very well done, and thebcharcter development brings more to the game than I can get out od actual gaming. Not just skill leveling, but personal growth - usually I come up with stories and dialogue adjunct to my own characters in my various games to get the same satisfaction. That it is included here is what makes reading this book worth the money/credit.

I have already read the whole series except the last book, and before reading that one I wanted to go through it again so I got audible. I never knew how much I forgot or maybe skimmed over that first time through. But the story of the Aiel made me cry this time, so hard I have a headache. I guess i was paying more attention, or maybe Kramer read it to me better than I could read it to myself. It'd rare that a book can make me feel...greif. Excitement? Giddiness? Anger? Sure. Sometimes even fear. But to make me grieve for an entire poeple... Damn. I mourn the brave brave brave dai'shan.

For all that his individual characters can be annoying, Jordan is magnificent at painting people and the eras they endure. I'm glad the entire book isn't as emotionally intense as learning about the Aiel.

This isn't a series that happens to you. You've really got to pay attention if you want the whole experience. As only an adventure story it could be shortened to three or five books. But it isn't an adventure story. This is the history of the world; the ending of an age and maybe the beginning of a new one if the Light is willing. If people can be as brave as the dai'shan. If they can survive a second Breaking.

I got audible for the purpose of re-reading this series. It was so detailed that although I was able to keep the characters straight, it was hard to remember specific subplotlines. I still enjoyed it immensely. Enough to commit 14 credits to the work. But for those new to the series who do not like extensive detail and can't abide teen angst books 1,2 and 10+ are the must reads. For the others read abridged or in depth summaries. I'll be reading them all though; to go further into the Wheel's tapestry.

I love the male female switch-unexpected and pleasant surprise. Also good for Jordan's style. Oh and read that prequel either before this one or right afterwards. It will give you a whole new look at Moraine and Lan. (and totally affirms picking her as my favorite character)

A paradox to enjoy

I started these books in my freshman year of high school, 2007, and caught up. Then I waited and read them as they came out up to book 13. I adored them, but even though I was only 14 I found the character's constant childish whining very tedious. Brats the lot of them bar Matt.
However, the story was engrossing emough that I read nothing else for months. But understand! They. Grow. Up. Thank the Light that they do. The three boys and the girls eventually stop complaining and start acting. But it takes awhile. Rand is the last so you'll just have to deal with his baggage, but it is understandable with all the bloody pressure and the taint besides. They still make mistakes mind, but they do become adults.
That's why I call the books a paradox to enjoy. I've already read them, so I see how those tedious details in book 2 and 3 are going to become relevant in book 8, and I know the characters are still growing. You have to read all of them to read all of them.
If you can't wait, try reading book...book 10. 10 had to be my favorite on the whole and gives a good look at what kind of people they become. Then try to read the books before it, or just read in depth summaries and continue to the end.
So 1,2, 10+ are the essentials. As for me, I'll be listening to every single one for immersion purposes. Happy listening.
