Historia
Herodotus Shapiro has had an unbelievably bad week. His wife left him. The IRS is after him for thousands of dollars. His home/bookstore burned down. On his way to take refuge at his brother's place, he got a speeding ticket. And now his car has broken down in the middle of the desert in front of a large mansion. What more can go wrong?

Ye Gods! A whimsical, delightful tale about rubbing elbows with divinity.
Revisado: 05-28-16
This is a snappy, witty little story about a man at the end of his rope, who suddenly and bizarrely finds himself keeping company with a beautiful, intelligent, wealthy young woman who is more– way more– than she first appears.
The first hour evokes multiple shades of "Hotel California", and for a bit it really does feel that perhaps the story is meant to be a full-length adaptation of the haunting Eagles song: the oasis mansion in the California desert, the mysterious beauty, the motley guests drinking wine and reminiscing on their lives. Then the story itself points out that particular reference, and you realize that the narrative knows perfectly well what it's doing, and that there is still much further to go.
It's all conveyed fluidly and cleverly, assisted by the nuanced and thoughtful narration by Joe Hempel. He brings the right pitch to all the characters, particularly our hero, named Hero (or Rod; his full name is Herodotus), and the playful, quirky, too-perfect Polly.
I recommend this fun and thought-provoking story. Both the writing and narration were thoroughly enjoyable.

Historia
Timeless and surprisingly current, The Art of the Theatre, published after her death at age 78, is the final and most in-depth record of the great actress' views on acting and the theatre. Here "The Divine Sarah" shares advice on everything from speech, movement, role preparation, vocal warmups, and make-up tips to why she preferred to play Hamlet instead of Ophelia.

Style, class, and a bit of 19th century attitude
Revisado: 07-02-15
What about Kitty Hendrix’s performance did you like?
Everything about her performance channeled Ms. Sarah Bernhardt as I would picture her. Although I didn't know much about the famous actress before listening, I felt that based on her statements, Ms. Hendrix spoke the way Ms. Bernhardt would have– with authority and class.
Any additional comments?
It's great to see this classic text in audio, and delivered by such a worthy professional. I hope to hear more from narrator Kitty Hendrix!

Historia
Being immortal is not all it once was. Yes, the 12 Greek gods of Olympus are alive and well in the 21st century, but they are crammed together in a London town house: and are none too happy about it. Even more disturbing, their powers are waning.

Hilarious bash at the Greek Gods in modern times!
Revisado: 07-02-15
What made the experience of listening to Gods Behaving Badly the most enjoyable?
Writing and narration were equally commendable. Marie Phillips has a great sense of comedy and Rosalyn Landor knows just how to deliver it, with a bit of class and subtlety.
Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?
There were many great characters and she performed each of them distinctly and to full effect. Apollo may have been my favorite, but her renditions of Aphrodite and Alice were both very effective as well.
If you could rename Gods Behaving Badly, what would you call it?
Its title is a perfect summation already. Why change it?
Any additional comments?
I'll definitely look for more books by both the author and narrator.
