Queen Latifah is for sure one of my favorite actresses, favorite comedians, seems like a genuinely nice person in real life and I love all of her work 🤗
And while I love this movie too I did have two issues with it:
• The romance between Georgia (Queen Latifah) and Sean (LL Cool J) wasn't realistic because they were literally just coworkers and acquaintances in every sense of the word before Georgia's character was "diagnosed" with a disease but afterwards they're suddenly in love, Sean is rushing to another country to go after her, they want to spend the rest of their lives together, open a business together, get married, start a family, etc. How two people who don't even properly know each other, only know each other's names and nothing else and are coworkers who only said a few sentences to each other tops in all the years they worked together which was strictly business or common decency related being a basis for a healthy relationship is beyond me. A LOT of movies, stories and tv shows are guilty of this not just this movie and with all that in mind it's no wonder that kids end up growing up with a warped and unrealistic view of love/relationships and quickly get hurt when they realize that's not reality. So I wish they would've made it realistic or at least more realistic then what they ended up doing, have Georgia confess her crush on him and then have them naturally get to know each other and go from there. But as it stands now it felt more like a "crush from far away" (you know "liking" someone but not actually liking them because you're only seeing surface level stuff of the person, not seeing who they are on the inside and since you don't actually know them you don't know if you actually truly like them or not or if you'd be good together or not and can't know that until you do get to know them) kinda thing on Georgia's part, Sean seeing her as strictly a coworker and then getting total whiplash from them suddenly being "in love".
• They left a lot of loose ends. Georgia spent all of her money on this vacation so how was she able to open a restaurant or even afford basic things later on? Did Georgia sue the hospital and/or the doctor for misdiagnosing her? If Georgia did sue them did she win and was that how she was able to recoup all her loses? How was Georgia even able to afford all of that stuff when she worked a minimum wage job and had no other sources of income (even with the couple thousands of dollars in bonds she had that's not even remotely enough to be able to afford everything she got) plus add on the fact that she owned a home, had a bunch of bills and cooked fresh food daily sometimes more? (i've worked minimum wage jobs many times before and I was lucky to even be able to pay just my rent with it let alone rent, bills, a luxury vacation, opening a restaurant and so I had to work two or three jobs just to be able to cover everything with not much left over), what happened to Matthew (Timothy Hutton) and that whole thing? Did he try to make up for how he treated her and his other employees or did he just go about his day? They gave him a lot of character development at the end but it didn't go anywhere and I thought for sure they'd correct all or most of his wrongs, etc.
Other then those two things though I really do love this movie and recommend it but just watch it as a funny movie without much thought because if you think too hard it being unrealistic will show up haha 🤣
