Like some of the other reviews mention: this book is a much different read than any other of Tolkien's works. It is not read like a simple narrative, and challenges the reader to actually study the evolution of a myth as it slowly emerged over time. Any readers who are true Tolkien fans and are up for the challenge will be well rewarded though; the myth of Beren and Luthien was truly beautiful, and it was certainly a great tragedy to see that it never reached completion. It can be especially challenging reading half of the work in rhyme, and then switching to prose off and on, as this tale was compsed from multiple works. I absolutely loved this book, but again, it is not for every reader.
