I think you would like this book if you are a Jennifer Lopez fan.

The problem is that I'm not. I don't hate her or anything, I'm just not a fan. I read the book because I am also contemplating ending my marriage, and I have a child that is caught up in this mess. And I liked the synopsis that I read online.

The problem is, that the synopsis of this book is about as good as it gets. I feel like the whole book is written in platitudes. "You can't truly love someone until you love yourself," and all that sort of stuff. Don't get me wrong, I agree with pretty much everything she said, but I'm not sure why she decided to write the book.

Most of the book, is spent describing her recent world tour, how different parts of the performance symbolized her life, and how the tour changed her life. This is probably interesting to fans, especially those who when to see her on tour, but I found it pretty boring.

I wanted more. I wanted her to explain how she thinks she could prevent herself from being mistreated in the future. She makes vague statements about not respecting herself, and vague references to verbal and emotional (possibly physical?) abuse, but doesn't say much beyond that. I don't want to read a blow-by-blow about her relationships, but she is so vague about everything in her life that you are left wondering what the book is about. If you are going to write a deep book and title it true love, then you really have to put in some specifics somewhere.

After reading the book, I am certain that her divorce agreement probably had some clause that barred either party from discussing their marriage in public. As a result the book is a great description of her world tour, but a lousy book on love and marriage. I respect Jennifer Lopez, and I'm glad that she got out of what was probably a bad situation, but this was not an interesting read for me. I'm probably the only non-fan to have read this book (silly me).
