Different than the first book in the collection. This one is based around a Chinese family and their Chinese new year dinner. Josephine is hosting the party for the first time. Her son Keith arrives late with a big surprise a new fiancee. As the party goes on his fiancee Lacey drops dead in the middle of the living room. From there the mystery moves quickly with a surprise ending. A fun read.

What do you get when you take a half dozen dynamic writers and set them free with the task of writing novellas about controlling family members, nosy neighbors, vengeful coworkers, and internet stars? That would be the Busybodies collection of short stories that combine mystery, humor, revenge, karma, and people with too much time on their hands.

Jesse Q. Sutanto keeps it all in the family, when Josephine Ying hosts her first Chinese New Year get-together for The Reunion Dinner. She had been wanting to host the dinner for years, so this year is special, especially when her son announces he has a big surprise. Josephine is dreaming of something sparkly for her, as his Wall Street job is just down the street from Tiffany’s, but instead he shows up with a fiancée. And when she turns up dead, Josephine finds out that the family has far more suspects than she thought.

These six stories are all about similar themes, but they couldn’t be more different. They are smart and intriguing, and they all have twists you can’t see coming. I enjoyed reading them all, and I loved getting a small glimpse into all these authors’ minds. If you’re not interested in all of them, you can buy only the stories that you are drawn to, but for me, I’m glad I read the whole collection. I wanted to read some because I am a big fan of Cosimano, Sutanto, and Prose. And now that I’ve read the stories by Garrett, Thompson, and Rosenblum also, I’m a fan of theirs too. These are tasty appetizers, and now I want to read more.

Egalleys for The Busybodies Collection were provided by Amazon Original Stories through NetGalley, with many thanks.

The Dinner Reunion is a short story and the second book in the Amazon Originals Busybodies collection. I had a little trouble getting into the story at first but as I continued to turn the pages I became intrigued by the characters and tried to solve the "whodunit" right alongside the main character, Josephine. The ending was great! A twist that I never saw coming!

I felt the evil smile slowly spread across my face, just like the Grinch, as I reached the delightful ending.

This mystery had a lot of twists, and turns in figuring out who the murderer was. The biggest problem was that the perpetrator didn’t get justice. I never like that kind of story.

I didn’t understand what really was going on. Too many characters and not enough distinction on who was the main characters. I understand it was a family gathering but too many backstories.

It's Chinese New Year and Josephine has finally got the chance to host the family reunion dinner.
When her son Keith arrives with fiancé Lacey in toe Jo takes an instant dislike to her. When Jo learns that Lacey has ties to many other family members and Lacey suddenly drops dead Jo is surrounded by a room full of suspects and is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery especially as all she has ever wanted is everyone to talk about what a great host she is, however now she realises it's going to be memerably looked back on for an entirely different reason. .

I loved the author's first novel with the aunties but this short story was not that interesting. Confused plot. Luke-warm ending.

A great story but unless I’ve missed something in the story was how the hostess knew about Lacey beforehand. I’m baffled
