The Woman in Coach D Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
This book contains strong language, and adult themes that may not be suitable for everyone.
Jenny sits in the same seat on the same train every week, seeing familiar faces come and go.
Until a chance encounter shatters her world.
Sixteen years ago, Jenny survived a traumatic ordeal that left her best friend, Susie, missing and presumed dead. The world has its theories about what happened to Susie Patterson, and one of those theories points the finger at Jenny.
Now she lives a quiet life, volunteering at a crisis helpline while trying to deal with her own anxiety and the true crime fans obsessed with finding her missing friend. Then, on the way to her usual shift, Jenny is certain she sees Susie sitting in coach D.
But will anyone believe her?
Seeing Susie plunges Jenny back into a nightmare of forgotten memories and haunting fears. As the past claws its way into her present, she must unravel the truth about what happened sixteen years ago.
But the deeper she digs, the more she realises that some secrets are better left buried.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024"The Woman in Coach D," by Sarah A. Denzil, is an extremely compelling missing person story that kept me from sleep and chores. Protagonist Jenny had been haunted by the death of her best friend Susie since they had unsuccessfully completed a dare together to jump into a water filled cave when they were teenagers. Jenny suffered a brain injury, and Susie went missing and was presumed dead. Because Jenny's TBI kept her from remembering details about the evening, she was even initially suspected of having killed Susie, but no evidence came to light. One day sixteen years later, Jenny was on her way to work when she thought she saw Susie on the same commuter train, and even spoke to her, but the woman said they had never met. What followed was a most unusual story with unique plot twists I hadn't encountered in other missing person stories. Jenny experienced anxiety attacks as she interacted with the police, Susie's mother, her roommate, her co-workers, and members of a cult. Almost no one was who they seemed to be, either literally or figuratively. Hidden agendas and identities ruled the day. I like surprise endings, and Denzil definitely delivered one. I enjoyed reading the book and recommend it to readers who like suspense and who do not insist on a "happy" ending. The outcome left me a little down, but that was partly because I didn't want the book to end.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2024First off I had a problem with all the repetition. There were times I was ready to give up! The subject matter is almost unbelievable. I just don’t see people being that gullible. I don’t know that I would recommend it.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2024I liked this book it was twisty and interesting. Jenny was so smart and brave especially in the end. I enjoy this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2024This was an addictive read and suspenseful up to the last page. I enjoyed the dialogue, the psychological drama, and the examination of the amount of peer pressure both young adults and adults endure for the sake of friendship as well as the reality of those vulnerable enough to be pulled into a cult.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2024I kept waiting for something to happen, and it didn't. Not my favorite from this author. I will continue to read her books, just disappointed in this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024Had the makings of a good Ruth Ware novel but ultimately had too many extras in it for my liking. I am not sorry I read it but can't enthusiastically recommend

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay
I found the majority of this story to be pretty dull. It was repetitive and boring and I slogged thru it. It picked up around the 80% mark when it was going for the wrap up and, thankfully, didn't go into great lengths with the cult. (I hate cult stories). The misdirection for me, the reader, was well done. I didn't see it coming, BUT for our heroine....come on. Surely she would not be so clueless. All in all, if it weren't for that "twist" there was nothing to redeem the story for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars First book I have read by this author.
This easy read is full of twists and turns to keep the reader gripped, I read this in 3 sessions. I will be reading more of her works as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars hooked from the start
This was another hard to put down book. Wanted to keep reading to find out how it ended. The ending was yet another twist I didn’t see coming! Looking forward to reading more books by this author now.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.75
This was good. Lots of twists and turns. I think the ending was slightly anticlimactic. I felt sorry for Jenny and everything she went through. And angry at the people she had around her.
