SILLY BOOBIES description

Editorial Reviews

Review

“[A] solid, enjoyable tale about overcoming fear and accepting and celebrating differences, with the likable, goofy boobies making for a fun addition.” Kirkus Reviews

“True love prevails and unites in this booby-centered telling, which hints that one needn’t be a grown-up to savor the pleasures of a well-told rom-com.” Publishers Weekly

“Weyant's cartoonish boobies are weirdly alluring with their large eyes and goofy expressions, while Dyckman uses her trademark humor to make a solid point about finding common ground. Booby back matter adds a nice informative touch. Cue the storytime chaos!” Booklist

“An original and fun picturebook story…Silly Boobies: A Love Story from Two Lions is an especially and unreservedly recommended pick…” Midwest Book Review

“Humorous lessons on life and animal behavior make this a memorable offering.” The Horn Book Magazine

From the Publisher

I think I first heard of blue-footed boobies in my twenties. My younger self probably would have gotten a big kick out of the name. “Birds named what?!” I can imagine myself (and my mom) saying if I had picked up this picture book then.

On its face, this is a hilarious take on
Romeo and Juliet featuring blue- and red-footed birds—and a happy ending. While I appreciate that, what I appreciate even more is that the name of these birds and this book invites a giggle (a bunch of them, actually) that may make kids comfortable talking about serious topics such as accepting differences and finding common ground.

One of the things I like best about picture books is that they offer different levels of storytelling to meet kids where they’re at. If you’re looking for a silly story with heart from a
New York Times bestselling author and a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award–winning illustrator, here you go. And if you want a book that may also inspire some bigger conversations, these lovebirds just might help.

Can't read this book
Got it through first reads this month and was super excited to read it with my preschooler but I can't even read it because it's incompatible with BOTH of my kindles, I have an oasis and a brand new paperwhite. Why even have a Kindle book if it won't work with anything???
Thank you for your feedback

It's so fun to say boobies!!! It's a great story about what makes us who we are. Looking at what is alike about each other and learning to love the differences. It has adorable illustrations that are wholly representative of their subject matter, with loads of character.

Although I think kids books should be a physical copy, I got this through kindle because the title obviously got my attention! I was NOT disappointed! It was a quick read and gave me a little chuckle. So much so I had my coworker come over and also read through the book since she has a young daughter who might like this too! It gives Romeo and Juliet vibes in the sense that the two bird's families wouldn't like one another but they fall for each other anyways. I also like the fact that it gives fun facts about the birds at the end! If I had to criticize anything it would be that I feel like "the wise hermit crab" should have had a bit more of a roll to make him wise. He says a couple things but it would have been nice to hear a little bit more from him to make him "wise" but other than that, it's a great book! I also love the illustration through out as well!

I appreciate the simplicity of this book that on the surface is a fun story with great illustrations. Meanwhile it’s also teaching a love of reading, acceptance of others who are different, genetics, and even some back matter about birds and the origin of where the name of the bird came from. I’m a big Ame Dyckman fan and this one did not disappoint!
And who doesn’t love a love story?

The perfect book to gift your parents, family, and friends who are being silly boobies and don’t understand why you love the person you do and think it’s their place to judge the relationship.

It’s also a great book to gift to a child to teach them about the perils of racism, as well as some interesting facts about boobies!

Silly Boobies is a delightful read, it warmed my heart and tickled my funny bones.
I’m an 80 year old Granny, and can’t wait to share this with our youngest grandchild. Perhaps our 22yr old granddaughter would like it too. Who wouldn’t enjoy the charming story and great illustrations. Also the added bird facts at the end are excellent. I’ll be looking up more of Ame Dyckman’s books.

First time I have downloaded a children’s book. But this was too cute for me not to discover the story. Also I think it will be a great book for my students, a fun way to teach speciation, (if I can figure out how to get it on a big screen). Loved the illustrations and fun facts at the end.
