“[A] solid, enjoyable tale about overcoming fear and accepting and celebrating differences, with the likable, goofy boobies making for a fun addition.” —Kirkus Reviews
“True love prevails and unites in this booby-centered telling, which hints that one needn’t be a grown-up to savor the pleasures of a well-told rom-com.” —Publishers Weekly
“Weyant's cartoonish boobies are weirdly alluring with their large eyes and goofy expressions, while Dyckman uses her trademark humor to make a solid point about finding common ground. Booby back matter adds a nice informative touch. Cue the storytime chaos!” —Booklist
“An original and fun picturebook story…Silly Boobies: A Love Story from Two Lions is an especially and unreservedly recommended pick…” —Midwest Book Review
“Humorous lessons on life and animal behavior make this a memorable offering.” —The Horn Book Magazine
From the Publisher
On its face, this is a hilarious take on Romeo and Juliet featuring blue- and red-footed birds—and a happy ending. While I appreciate that, what I appreciate even more is that the name of these birds and this book invites a giggle (a bunch of them, actually) that may make kids comfortable talking about serious topics such as accepting differences and finding common ground.
One of the things I like best about picture books is that they offer different levels of storytelling to meet kids where they’re at. If you’re looking for a silly story with heart from a New York Times bestselling author and a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award–winning illustrator, here you go. And if you want a book that may also inspire some bigger conversations, these lovebirds just might help.

And who doesn’t love a love story?
It’s also a great book to gift to a child to teach them about the perils of racism, as well as some interesting facts about boobies!

I’m an 80 year old Granny, and can’t wait to share this with our youngest grandchild. Perhaps our 22yr old granddaughter would like it too. Who wouldn’t enjoy the charming story and great illustrations. Also the added bird facts at the end are excellent. I’ll be looking up more of Ame Dyckman’s books.
The illustrations are beautiful.
It’s about differences and acceptance and love!
What’s not to like?
Cute and funny story with a good message.
More like this, thank you.
