Den of Vipers Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 71,015 ratings

They run this town and everyone in it.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses.

Yes, sold me.

They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant. These men, they look at me with longing. Their scarred, blood-stained hands holding me tight. They want everything I am, everything I have to give, and won’t stop until they get just that. They can own my body, but they will never have my heart.

The Vipers? I’m going to make them regret the day they took me.

This girl? She bites, too.

This is a reverse-harem romance. It contains scenes and references to abuse, assault, violence, and sex.

Den of Vipers Review
From Lala’s Book ReviewsSo yes, the size of this book was one of the biggest reasons why I was putting off this book, but LET ME TELL YOU, despite the size of this book (over 600 pages), it really is a quick read because the story is constantly progressing and the relationships between Roxy and the guys are constantly evolving.Roxy is this young woman who has been on her own since she ran away from her abusive father. She now runs a dive bar where she makes the rules and is respected among her customers, but she doesn’t have anyone in her life that she can count on when she needs help. She’s used to having to defend herself and can bring down a man that is easily two or three times her size, and despite her upbringing, she is a fighter. She has learned not to let the demons of her past control her life.Ryder and Kenzo are brothers. Ryder being the older of the two. Ryder is the leader of the Vipers and is cold and constantly calculating. He has always been the protector of his biological brother and now his group of formed brothers. Ryder assumes the weight of being the leader of the Vipers, he blames himself when things happens, and he tries to shelter his brothers even when they want to help him.Kenzo is also calculating as he is the “gambler” of the group. He runs the underground gambling rings, casinos, and everything else in their town that involves betting. Rarely does he loose a bet, and even then, it is because he wanted to loose. Out of all of the men in the Vipers, he is the one with the heart that bleeds for romance. Despite his ability to hurt and murder, he is the one who is able to express his emotions the best.Diesel is one crazy man. There is literally no other way to say it because in this case you have to call it like you see it, and even he would admit it. He gets off on people pain and loves to torture people. He’s the type of man who would bring you the appendage of an enemy to you as a gift after the enemy looked at you the wrong way. There is nothing in the world that scares him more than loosing his little bird. Then we have Garrett who is the one who lets his demons out to play the most but not like Diesel level. Garrett was almost killed by his ex-fiancé, and ever since then he has hated women. Garrett lets his anger fuel and enhance his fighting abilities. The rest of the Vipers thought leaving Roxy with him would be the safest since he won’t make any advances, but Roxy sees the broken man beneath his tough exterior and is drawn to saving him even if it is a death wish.So backing up the train for a second, let’s talk about how the Vipers got Roxy. Her father owed them a bunch of money, and her father basically sold his daughter to them to pay off his debt. When the Vipers got to Roxy’ bar, they weren’t sure what to expect given how weak her father is, but they obviously didn’t expect the woman with silver hair, tattoos covering her body, piercings, and a baseball bat and swing strong enough to bring one of the Vipers down. When they were able to capture her, they took her back to their apartment, and even when she a captive, they treated her well enough by captivity and Viper standards. They gave Roxy her own room, fed her, and even bought her new clothes. Roxy resents them for holding her as their debt, and the guys have different levels f interest not only because of her looks but also because of her will and ability to fight and her ability not to cower to four of the most powerful and feared men of the city.Although it may had started off a Roxy being a way to settle a debt, the guys are quick to see that she is starting to give them a reason to live again when they were starting to fall into a rut and starting to give in totally to their darkness. Despite Roxy’s own past, she has a light and way of looking at life that the Viper’s see and it helps heal them. But even when Roxy and the guy’s relationship progresses romantically and emotionally, will it be overshadowed by the fact that she is still captive and unable to reclaim the freedom that she craves?Den of Vipers is told from Roxy, Diesel, Garrett, Kenzo, and Ryder’s POV which is really great because it is really important to get everyone’s thoughts and opinions in a book where so much is happening with the Vipers themselves and with their relationship with Roxy. All of the guys are very different yet they fit together like a well oiled machine, and even though the story would have been fine with only Roxy telling it, the guys’ POV allows for us to really understand their pains and past that would have been more difficult to pick up with only Roxy.Like it may be slightly crazy for me to say, but Diesel was the first Viper that I fell for because he was himself from the beginning. He wasn’t hiding his bloodlust and need for pain and destruction, and once Roxy had his attention, he vowed to protect her (but not from himself). Even during his most intense moments he was always thinking about her and ways that he could make her happy and feel pleasure. And to be honest, he was the most frequent comic relief in the book. All I can say is that if you like dark reverse harem romance with possessive men and a strong female who isn’t afraid to put them in their place, then you need to read this book! Don’t let the size of this book intimidate you because you’ll fly through it and won’t even realize that you read half of the book in one sitting.

I don’t even know where to start with this review…I just finished this book and it feels like it’s ruined my life – it was just that amazingly good! There are no heroes in this story – no good guys versus bad. Instead what we have are four very broken men who happen to be the kings of the criminal world in their city. There’s Ryder, the control freak whose biggest fear is turning into his father and losing control; Kenzo, Ryder’s baby brother who hides his darkness beneath smiles and charm; Garrett who is so broken inside over his past trauma he can’t see past anything else; Diesel who is so far gone there’s no saving the psychopath. These are the four Vipers who run the city through gambling, murder, torture and legal businesses. Then there’s Roxy, our FMC, also living with the nightmares of her past and barely coping. She’s fierce and sassy, independent and can hold her own with the best of them. There’s no light and sweetness with her but a woman who embraces her darkness, accepts who she is and decides she’d rather live than die. When Roxy is sold by her father to pay his debts and the Vipers come to collect – let’s just say they get the surprise of lifetime and their fun and dark adventures begin.

This story is dark – there’s violence and blood. This is not a story about a woman redeeming 4 broken men – it’s a story of 5 dark people finding each other and learning to live for each other. If this isn’t for you then please don’t bother picking this up. But if you’re like me and like your dark stories with a little realism as in the antiheroes don’t suddenly turn a new leaf after finding their love and becoming heroes then this book is for you. It’s dark and gritty, full of steam (so much!) and full of possessive men who don’t allow anyone to touch what’s theirs and consider it a romantic gesture to kill someone who has. It’s about finding your perfect other half in the dark and never letting them go and learning that underneath the monster there is  a heart that can beat for someone. This story showed a woman who understood these four other souls and their pain because they mirrored hers and she brings them back from the brink of becoming entirely lost because she sees them. And in turn they see her and allow to her grow and become the person she could’ve been all along. It’s a love story about embracing who you are and finding the person who will love and accept you, crazy and all. And there’s a lot of crazy to be had in this book. I mean Diesel is definitely certifiable and the rest aren’t as far behind but Roxy meets their crazy head on and welcomes it. There are a lot of heart stopping moments in this book as well as funny moments, action packed moments and scenes that will make you tear up. The emotional roller coaster you will go on will leave you shredded but the author puts you back together piece by piece until finally you are joining in the crazy and smiling like a loon at the end.

In the end this book was worth every second and every page completely enthralled me. From page 1 I was sucked into this story and putting it down was not an option. I had to know what was going to happen, how this story was going to develop and if the vipers were going to kill Roxy or not because I just had to know! As usual it was very well written and I highly recommend this read.

This is probably one of the darkest books I’ve read. But it is dark in a different way... usually I describe books as dark due to the content surrounding abuse and trauma. This book has that... but it’s not the focal plot. That’s part of what made the characters who they are and the focus is on that. How they are the people they are and who they become.

Roxy is kidnapped to pay her fathers debt. A father she has not had contact with in at least 7 years. She has been on her own living her life since 17. The Vipers run the town and are the most ruthless of mobsters. They take no prisoners. Show no mercy. And are gruesome on their revenge and dealings with others.

As they get thrown together they all begin to change and this is where I feel the story is. Yes there is a storyline about someone trying to takeover. Yes there are the other small ones of their pasts. But it’s mostly in my opinion about people and connections. Roxy is a fighter. She is a live wire that sparks them all into action. They did not realize the motions that they were just going through, the boredom they were experiencing. They all, including Roxy, were living life, but they weren’t LIVING life. The Roxy tornado shakes everything up.

Roxy fights with herself a lot. She is so use to being on her own, relying on herself, putting up walls, and not trusting anyone. So she pushes. She fights. She denies herself her true feelings. Though to be fair she is pretty insightful, but questions herself based on the fact that she is a captive and whether her decision or desire is true. Her pranks and desire for mischief were hilarious.

The guys are all uniquely different and not what they seem at first. They are hurt and broken in different ways. Ryder is the leader and the ice control one. He uses his desire to protect his family to control everything and keeps his feelings sealed away. Kenzo is his younger brother who is more charming and effervescent, but who still has darkness that he hides with his charm. Garrett is my favorite. He’s the most outwardly broken. Probably because his was the most recent where the others was when they were children. Garrett does not trust women and hates himself for his reaction to her. But he’s a big softy at times though he has a lot of anger and aggression. Diesel is the craziest, but also the most real. He knows who he is, embraces it and finds ways to feee that part of himself. He can truly see Roxy and how she will heal them all if she can survive them. His crazy is kind of endearing at times and definitely comic relief. He’s the big kid with no filter and no boundaries. His fanny packs were my favorite! The guys have to learn that they can’t control everything and that sometimes that is a good thing.

There is a lot of steamy scenes. Some of them are very graphic in the violence sense such as cutting, blood and chocking. It’s not really my thing, but I respect the fact that it was Roxys. It’s all consensual and she gets pleasure from pain. She asks for what she can handle and knows herself. She is not meek and she does not back down. These are mostly with Diesel if you want to skip them. Some other pain play with Ryder and Garrett but it’s much milder. The steam is hot though 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Grab. A. Fan.

It has multiple POVS. No MM. Some group scenes. This is not a soft love story. It’s gritty and dirty. It’s dark. But it is oh so captivating and addictive. The characters have more to overcome. They grow more and they shift the narrative. They aren’t good people but they can be good, they can love and they can do good things. They are all better together. It’s a long book.. 70 chapters with an epilogue. So buckle in! But it is a standalone, so no cliffhanger. Triggers: physical abuse, killing/torture, graphic violence. Again all sexual behavior is consensual and desired. Give in to your dark side and read this book!

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It was much longer than I expected. It’s got a little bit of everything; CNC, BDSM, slow burn, enemies to lovers, reverse harem, strong main character. Only downside is it gets a little repetitive towards the end and could have wrapped up about 50 pages sooner, but i appreciate the effort to pace things out.

Really enjoyed reading this book. The female main character is such a bada$$, she's strong-willed, and takes no crap. The male characters are well written. I love all their interactions, especially Diesel's, who doesn't love a crazy villian?! The story is interesting and keeps you reading. Make sure to read the trigger warnings before you start it though.
