His ideas are so profound and yet so obvious, when I think on them. He is ancient and current at the same time. I am enamoured by Epictetus and his wisdom. I can see some of his ideas may have influenced New Testament writers who were Roman and immersed in that culture. So much to think on.

I sent my son this book as a gift. As one who loves and appreciates books, he is careful with them. He never opens a new book all the way (barely a third of fully open), so it will make it last longer and look better. Upon receipt, he didn't even open the book a third of the way, and a page fell out. I am embarrassed to have given him such a book as a gift. A book should arrive in one piece (this was not caused by shipping) and, if cared for, last for many years. This did not even arrive properly bound. After reading the first six chapters, he confessed that it was so poorly written as to be painful to read.

10/31/24: No one proofread this! You know when you send a text while driving but you don't want to type it so instead you speak your text - then you re-read what you sent and there's lots of errors? This book is like that. "Form" instead of "from," and "a" instead of "as," and lots of commas where they don't belong. No one proofread this. Also, there's no "Forward" by the author, no introduction, no epilogue, no timeline, nothing. This is nothing like Marcus Aurileus' Meditations.
There's a lot of super confusing run-on sentences, like, "Then do you not suppose that this that which is not spoken of does not come from that which we are seeing every time we don't want to see it?" I just made that sentence up to illustrate "that which, confusing in this book, is."

While this book and subject matter are timeless and essential, the production quality of this book is abysmal. Typos are scattered throughout nearly every paragraph, which makes it almost impossible to read and comprehend without being distracted by the errors. I am very disappointed with this author/publisher

Unbelievably bad translation. No one credible read this book prior to publishing the amount of typos is staggering. This may have been translated by AI. Never seen anything so poorly edited.

This translation/adaption has many typos and missing words. It seems like maybe some kind of automated software was used to translate or transcribe it from some other edition or adaptation.

Wish I would have read the reviews prior to buying. Way too many typos. Not happy with this purchase at all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Wisdom comes alive

This is all about living a good life and what thinking is needed to survive the hardships that our life path flows through.

You get a perspective of life and living life the way we are supposed be living our lives. It is possible to make changes to your life and re-open your understanding of being human and living your life.

I highly recommend this. Though there are many spelling errors and simple grammatical errors, they are bearable. 5 stars for content.

2.0 out of 5 stars Over priced and probably written by an A.I

I bought this book as a birthday gift for my boyfriend who said he was interested in reading books 1-4 discourses by Epictetus. It arrived on time and in good condition, however, once he started reading it, he noticed there was a substantial amount of grammatical and structural errors that gives the impression it wasn't written by a person because a person could do a few mistakes, yes, but not on almost every page. The book repeats words or places words in the wrong place or even misses words mid sentence and its hard to understand. An example taken from the book, page 30 - "Actually, how much better is it to wipe your nose than to find fault a fault with it."

I wouldn't suggest buying it because now I feel like I've spent 25£ on a book written by either an illiterate or an A.I and my boyfriend is struggling to enjoy reading it.
