The I-5 Killer Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 2,382 ratings

As a young man, Randall Woodfield had it all; he was a star athlete with good looks and was an award-winning student. Working in the swinging West Coast bar scene, he had more than his share of women. But he wanted more than just sex. An appetite for unspeakable violent acts led him to cruise the I-5 highway through California to Washington, leaving a trail of victims along the way. As the list of the dead grew, the police mobilized to stop a twisted killer who had 44 known deaths to his name.

Damaged!
1 out of 5 stars
Damaged!
The book itself is very interesting and well written, but the end page was wrinkled up. When I looked closely, I could see that the book is damaged (you can tell that the last page I have extends beyond the border of the book itself when smoothed out). It also seems that it’s missing a handful of pages. Unfortunately, none of this was obvious when I opened the package - the booked looked “normal.” And because I didn’t immediately open it to start reading it, the return window has expired by ten days. So, buyer beware! If you purchase this book, immediately check that you actually have an entire book. Who wants to read a book they can’t finish?

This is what I read on my 4.5 hour plane trip from Indy to Seattle a few weekends ago. The choice was intentional since, in case you don't know, I-5 runs right through the Emerald City. 😁 (Yes, I have a weird sense of humor. 🤪)

Prior to reading this, I'd heard of the I-5 killer, but I didn't know much about him. This true crime novel digs into the life of Randall Woodfield, showing how a has-been star athlete with a huge sense of entitlement and an alarming self-esteem can be a brutal killer. While red flags were abundant when he was younger, those closest to him were willfully ignorant or didn't recognize the sign of a budding serial rapist and killer.

This is a good read if you're into true crime. Rule moves the story along while giving a good level of detail about Woodfield, his victims, and those closest to him. One of the things I like most about Rule's books is that she doesn't glorify the villain, but instead humanizes the victims and survivors.

Ann Rule is the "queen" of true crime stories and this book is further "evidence" of that. Ms. Rule thoroughly researches each case she covers and treats the victims and families with sensitivity, compassion and respect.
This book covers in great detail the crimes of the so called "I-5 Killer," the smooth talking, evil that is Randall Woodfield. To many people that met him he seemed charming enough, clean cut, nice looking but reality is that he hit on women and immediately would begin promising them romance, devotion and a future before they even got to know each other. And in return he'd want immediate promise of further dates and would impose himself upon their lives by dropping by or looking up their number unexpectedly. Thankfully for many he was too much too soon and they turned him down. In reality, he harbored a pent up rage towards women and found sexual gratification at the thought of taking control and making them pay for past rejections -- real or perceived. I was cheering when they caught this sicko and threw him behind bars! May his victims rest in peace!
The book is definitely one that holds the reader's attention although it's not one to read before bed even with husband sleeping beside you and being well protected by various means. It is quite well edited although I noticed one spelling mistake ("wagen" should be "wagon").

This book is a great read! Highly recommend. Only issue is that the lettering is so light on some pages that it is hard to read. Not sure why the ink is inconsistent, but if you want to read this book I would receommend buying it elsewhere.

This is a truly terrifying book about a prolific serial killer. The fact that he was able to continue for so long because of police departments not communicating with each other is worse. It shows that police departments must communicate and work together to keep criminals of all types off the streets.

Ann Rule is the queen of true crime. Sadly, she passed away this year. The I-5 Killer was written by her under a pen name…Andy Stack…when she was getting started as a true crime writer. It was thought that a female writer would not be accepted in the true crime drama. The nerve! Ann Rule proved them all wrong.

The I-5 Killer is story of Andy Woodfield. As with all Ann Rule books, The I-5 Killer chronicles Woodfield's early life and his decline into cold blooded killer as well as the investigation and the investigators that led to his capture. Woodfield was a killer of women...good looking on the outside, super creepy on the inside. It is fascinating that many serial killers can carry on somewhat normal relationships in addition to their extracurricular activity. Woodfield is no exception.

The book offers a fairly straight-forward, factual accounting of these crimes and this killer. Ann Rule has sifted through police and news reports to pull together some good sidebar material which does add to the story.
Rule, as she typically does, provides the reader with a neat compact package offering a bit more than "just the facts ma'am. Just the facts."
