- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2016This book is rock solid as far as the meticulous research. But as I read through the original material from when the book was first published I just didn't feel it had lived up to its critically important title. I kept turning the next page hoping for the big revelations but they didn't seem to be coming.
But then I finally reached the epilogue which was added in 2008 and which appears near the very end of the book. During the intervening years after the book was first published author John Newman apparently found out more information and arrived at certain conclusions. It is in this epilogue that Mr. Newman delivers on all the promises. He ties in all the other information from the book and explains what really happened.
John Newman names the name of the only person within the CIA who had the authority, knowledge, and diabolical mind to devise such an intricate plot to assassinate President Kennedy. Whoever Oswald's handlers were and whoever else knew about the assassination plans only this one guy could have given all the orders.
But this guy in the CIA was only someone who was being influenced by other powers, other entities who wanted John Kennedy dead. Or perhaps this guy was one of those entities himself but there were undoubtedly others.
And that's of course the big question. Who wanted John Kennedy dead and why ?
I recommend Fletcher Prouty's two books, especially his JFK, to get more perspectives on how the CIA mutated into something Harry Truman never intended when he created the Agency after World War II. Fletcher's books aren't light reading but they are very enlightening. Fletcher was a true CIA insider who worked directly with Allan Dulles in the CIA.
My own understanding right now is John Kennedy was resisting and even threatening something that Dwight Eisenhower also came to mistrust. Ike created one of the greatest terms of all time during his farewell address when he labeled this lying, multi headed hydra The Military Industrial Complex.
I'm not sure I would recommend this book for someone who is just starting out reading about the John Kennedy conspiracy. In my opinion this book assumes some prerequisite familiarity with the assassination. I would recommend Jim Marrs' Crossfire or JFK And The Unspeakable by James Douglass to get an overall understanding of the conspiracy theories.
Judyth Baker has also now surfaced and claims she met and fell in love with Lee Oswald in 1963 in New Orleans. Judyth's books have in my opinion provided many fascinating insights about Lee Oswald.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2009The best thing about a book like this is the fact that anyone who thinks that Oswald was a 'hater' and a 'lone nut' love to say that anyone who shows otherwise are making things up. In this book, everything came from actual facts and DOCUMENTED sources which the author provides copies of in the rear of the book!
The book does not go into "what if's" or speculation, it goes by actual facts and points out how the facts may or may not not be consistent with the "official" (what the government says...) version of events. This is just one book that shows you the 'other' side of the JFK assasination that most of the public does not know about because all they see is what is told to them on The History Channel and they take that as the full story because it is from "The HIStory Channel." Most people do not bother to read books on the subject or any other event that we are told what the cause was (9-11 and now Iran). Most people read fiction books. Most get their news from TV or newspapers and they don't think that they could be lied to by them!
The Author does not lead, he may point out that an 'official' story said other than what the actual FACTS (in document form) states and let's you figure it out. If Ruby had not killed Oswald and Oswald did not have the most unusual history, there would not be as many questions about the JFK killing. Not to mention that most people heard threee shots - with the last two almost on top of each other! That ALONE shows conspiracy, but the powers that be were able to manipulate everything else to fit their story. When they could not manipulate, they had to eliminate!
Anyone who STILL thinks that 9-11 happened the way they claimed and put Bin Laden as the villian (never caught and Bush said he was not concerned with him!) attacked Iraq - you are either afraid or stupid. Any wise person could see that Afghanistan was targeted for two reasons - oil and it shares a border with Iran. Iraq was attacked for the SAME reason! Saddam was CREATED by the Bushes, so it is no surprise that they took him out! Now, change of president or not, this whole thing is done to set up from Iran since Iran is a large, mountainous country. The US knows it's wepaons are no threat to us, it is only a threat to Israel. So Israel may be the ONLY reason for all of this.
Get this book, you learn behind the scenes info how deep governments go to get what they want. This is also very good for info about Oswald's stay in the Soviet Union, which is very mysterious. One day, when they figure out a good way to try and pin JFK's murder on the mob, will we then know that he was killed as a result of a conspiracy. They will never admit the government or those who control it (see who controls the Federal Reserve) did JFK in. The only problem with the mob excuse is, why did they hide it and how come they did not do anything about the mob if they did it? It may have been "A" mob, but it sure as heck was not the more popular Italian one.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2022Very good. Intricate happenings relatively easy to follow in this book. I read it without putting it down. We still know so little about who he was, what was going on behind the scenes, the hair and makeup of the media. Well worth your time if you want to understand the United States in the 60s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forensic evidence
This book follows Oswald's path through the eye of the FBI and the CIA. Who better than J Newman, an ex-army intelligence analyst, could decrypt methodically the mass of documents released (by force) to the public over the last two decades. His persistence added to his past experience in interlinking documents, redacted or not, to follow logic, goes on to build a picture that finally astounds you. This is the result of pure logical analysis; if something goes missing or does not make sense, Newman asks whether the CIA was being incompetent or whether they are hiding a document. In fact, much has been destroyed in the few days after the assassination and during the successive public inquiries. On the assumption that no intelligence organisation would ever make public any documents per se which would implicitly incriminate themselves, Newman's work finally makes sense (with a high probability) of how Oswald was led and parlayed during those 15 weeks before the fatal event as part of a counterintelligence plan seeking to put the (future) blame on a Castro operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at who knew what and when about Oswald and his clandestine connections to intelligence communities...
I'm not a conspiracy nut but there has always been something about the way Oswald was treated that doesn't ring quite true, and more to his background than was released at the time. Newman has done a really good job in navigating through the files held by various intelligence organisations pre-11/22/63 (to use Stephen King's book title). The book doesn't touch on the assassination of Kennedy and doesn't offer any thoughts on whether Oswald did or didn't do it, it just looks at what was known by the intelligence community about Oswald and when, what the audit trail of paperwork at these intelligence organisations tells us - as much as it can do from those documents released and who knew what and when they knew it. It makes interesting reading, albeit that some of it is redacted. Was Oswald a patsy for the CIA? Was he a double sent to the USSR to find out what they knew about the U2 program - there were rumours of a leak that the CIA was trying to identify. The U2 program being run by the military in conjunction with the CIA and which Oswald as a highly trained radar tech was involved in with the appropriate clearance. It really does make interesting reading. You can understand why conspiracy theories abound when you read histories like this one. As I read a lot of historical murder mystery and detective fiction I often wonder what stories the writers 300 years from now would construct about incidents like the assassination of Kennedy and the machinations of our current great and good. This is rather dry as a read but it is also very very good and I thoroughly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newman presents the best paper-trail evidence of government knowledge of, and interaction with, Oswald way before 22-11-63
This book should please those already familiar with the case. Newman, obviously a CIA expert, goes right into FBI, CIA, ONI and other government agencies files on Oswald and shows that Oswald was not just some lone nut that came out of the blue to assassinate the president, that the Warren Commission did not investigate his relationship with the CIA, that people as high up as Angleton, Deloach knew about him, that he was being driven, that plenty of useful information is still being held back. Unlike with an over-reliance on witnesses, Newman`s research is based on undeniable evidence and provides a bullet-proof foundation that other researchers can use for corroboration of their conclusions. Sometimes difficult to read because of its technical nature, but one of the best contributions to the case based on rock solid, up to date evidence.
