Six teams qualified for the Olympic softball tournament, including Japan, which, as host nation, qualified automatically. The United States team won the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship to qualify for the Olympics. One quota spot was awarded at a combined continental qualifying tournament for Africa and Europe to be held from 23 to 27 July 2019. The tournament featured eight teams: the top six from the 2019 ESF Women's Championship and the top two from the 2019 Softball Africa Cup. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Archery competitions were held between 9 August and 15 August, at the Olympic Green Archery Field, a temporary venue on the Olympic Green, Beijing's Olympic Park.
Baseball is being featured at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, for the first time since the 2008 Summer Olympics. Six national teams are competing in the tournament. Israel, Japan (host), Mexico, South Korea, the United States, and the Dominican Republic.
Baseball competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, were held from July 27 to August 4. The venue for the competition was the baseball stadium located at the Villa María del Triunfo cluster. A total of eight men's teams competed. This meant a total of 192 athletes were scheduled to compete. After being contested for the first time ever in 2015, the women's event was dropped for this edition.
The 2019 WBSC Premier12 was an international baseball championship featuring the 12 highest-ranked national teams in the world, held by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was the second WBSC Premier12 event. The championship was held from November 2 to 17, 2019, in Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
