Allan Gerard MacMaster (born September 26,1974) is a Canadian politician. He represents the electoral district of Inverness in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. [1]
He is the son of Marie and Hugh Alan "Buddy" MacMaster,and grew up in Judique in Inverness County. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a degree in business administration.
Prior to being elected,MacMaster worked as an investment advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns,and authored a monthly column for the Nova Scotia Business Journal entitled "Building Your Wealth". He also worked as an assistant to the former MLA'S for Inverness.
MacMaster was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in a by-election on October 20,2009. [2] [3] He served as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee from 2009 to 2018,acting as Chair of the committee from 2013 to 2018. [1]
In March 2010,MacMaster issued a rare Gaelic resolution in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly,asking for continued government support for Gaelic language,history and culture in Nova Scotia. It was passed unanimously by all members. [4]
In his first full session in the legislature,MacMaster introduced two bills:An Act to Provide Greater Flexibility for Nova Scotians' Retirement Savings in Locked-in Accounts [5] and An Act to Amend Chapter 31 of the Acts of 1996,the Sales Tax Act which would prohibit the province from proposing or agreeing to an increase in the provincial portion of the federally enacted harmonized sales tax. In 2012,he brought the idea forward to extend pension wind up for Newpage pension plans during debate on Bill 96 Pension Benefits Act in 2011,but this was voted down. [7] A new bill was created for the same purpose and passed. [8]
Since 2013,he has been an advocate for patient safety and the access to a CT scanner at the Inverness hospital, [9] and a voice for those opposing the "Royal" designation of the Gaelic College in Cape Breton. [10]
In October 2014,MacMaster delivered a speech in the legislature about the struggles faced by victims of sexual abuse. [11]
MacMaster was re-elected in the 2013 election, [12] [13] the 2017 election and again in the 2021 election. He was appointed Deputy Premier,Minister of Finance and Treasury Board,Gaelic Affairs and Labour Relations on August 31,2021. [14]

The Nova Scotia New Democratic Party is a social democratic political party in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the provincial section of the federal New Democratic Party.
Darrell Elvin Dexter is a Canadian lawyer, journalist and former naval officer who served as the 27th premier of Nova Scotia from 2009 to 2013. A member of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party, he served as party leader from 2001 to 2013. He became Premier in 2009 after his party defeated the governing Progressive Conservative Party, leading the first NDP government in Atlantic Canada and the second east of Manitoba. His government was defeated in the 2013 election, becoming the first Nova Scotia government in 131 years to be denied a second mandate; Dexter himself was defeated in his constituency by 21 votes. Dexter now serves as a lobbyist for the cannabis industry.
Gordon Leonard Gosse Jr. was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Cape Breton Nova and Sydney-Whitney Pier in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2003 to 2015. He was a member of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party.

Paul MacEwan was a politician from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. His 33 years in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly made him the longest continuous serving Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Nova Scotia history. He was a contentious politician, who seemed to court controversy. So much so, he was kicked out of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party (NDP) while he was a sitting member of the assembly in 1980 and caused them to lose official party status without him. He formed his own political party, the Cape Breton Labour Party, to contest the 1984 provincial election. He served one-term as its leader, before the party disintegrated because of financial issues. He eventually joined the Liberal Party of Nova Scotia, and became a Liberal member of the legislature. In 1993, he became the Speaker of the House of Assembly. His term as the speaker was marked with many controversies around bias and partisanship. His final years in the legislature saw him take prominent roles as Party Whip for the Liberals. After several health issues, he decided to not run for office again in 2003. He retired and lived another 14 years before finally succumbing to health issues in 2017, at age 74 in Sydney.
