The 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier was a cricket tournament that was played as part of the qualification process for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It took place in November 2021 in Antigua, [1] [2] with the top two teams progressing to one of two global qualifiers. [3] In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full international status to Twenty20 men's matches played between member sides from 1 January 2019 onwards. Therefore, all the matches in the Regional Qualifiers were played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). [4]

Contents

Originally the tournament was scheduled to take place from 18 to 24 August 2020. [5] [6] However, in June 2020, the tournament was postponed until 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [7] In December 2020, the ICC updated the qualification pathway following the disruption from the pandemic. [8] In May 2021, the tournament was postponed again due to the pandemic, [9] [10] after being scheduled to take place from 17 to 23 July 2021 in Toronto, Canada. [11] The ICC confirmed all the fixtures for the Americas Qualifier in October 2021. [12]

The United States became the first team to reach the Global Qualifiers, after they won their first five matches. [13] Canada finished in second position to also secure their place in the Global Qualifiers. [14]

The 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the eighth ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. It was played in Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022. In the final, England beat Pakistan by five wickets to win their second ICC Men's T20 World Cup title and draw level with the West Indies, who also won 2 ICC Men's T20 World Cup titles in both the 2012 and the 2016 edition. The first stage of the qualification pathway in the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) region consisted of two sub-regional qualifiers: Qualifier A in Vanuatu in September 2022, and Qualifier B in Japan in October 2022.

The 2023 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier was a cricket tournament that formed part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The first stage of the qualification pathway in the Americas region was the sub-regional qualifier, played in Argentina between 25 February and 4 March 2023. The top three teams in the sub-regional qualifier progressed to the Americas regional final, which was played in Bermuda between 30 September and 7 October 2023, where they were joined by Canada, who competed in the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A in Oman. The winner of the Americas Regional Final qualified for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The West Indies and the United States, qualified for the World Cup as hosts.
