Andreescu became the first wildcard to win the title in the tournament's history and the youngest Indian Wells champion since Serena Williams in 1999. This also marked the second year in a row where a player won the tournament without having won a WTA singles title prior.

Barty won the title after saving a match point in the second round against Kristína Kučová. This was also the first time in Barty's career that she successfully defended a singles title.
