Uwem F Ekpo

Uwem Friday Ekpo (also known by Uwemedimo Friday Ekpo) is a Professor of Parasitology and Epidemiology at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta where he started his academic career in 1999. Before joining the university, he worked for nine years as a Programme Assistant for Nigeria Guinea worm Eradication Programme, where he had practical experiences in National Disease control programme. He has won several awards both local and international, including fellowships and travel grants.  His research focus and interest is in spatial parasitology and epidemiology; control of neglected tropical diseases and recently behavioral intervention strategy. He has advanced certificates in Geospatial Health and Environment, Louisiana State University, USA; Bayesian Disease Mapping in Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Basel, Switzerland and Epidemiological Methods from the International Epidemiological Association, USA. Professor Ekpo is currently the head, Department of Pure and Applied Zoology since 2012-Date. He is an Associate Editor of PLoS NTD open access journal since 2014, and reviewer for many international journals. Prof Ekpo is currently a member of the management board of African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD). He had served the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria in the following position: Business Manager 2004-2008; National Secretary – 2009-2014; and currently the Zonal Coordinator South West – 2016-Date
