How are we helping clients to capitalise on cross-border opportunities between Singapore and the UAE? Last week’s Investopia Global Singapore event, hosted by Standard Chartered in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Economy and chaired by H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq, explored the Middle East's emergence as a key destination for capital, its robust ecosystem for family offices and asset managers, and the region's strategic role as a gateway to Africa and the broader MENA region for Asian investors. The exclusive event, attended by 150 executives from large corporates, family offices, financial institutions, and the broader investment ecosystem, examined the opportunities for closer collaboration between the #UAE and #Singapore to foster innovation and support the growth of start-ups in both countries, leveraging the complementary strengths of these two inter-connected markets. Patrick Lee, our CEO, Singapore and ASEAN, said: “As Standard Chartered is the only international bank with a presence in all 10 ASEAN markets and with a history of over 65 years in the UAE, we’re well positioned to enable our clients to capitalise on cross-border opportunities and forge new partnerships that will benefit our economies, organisations and communities.” Rola Abu Manneh , our CEO, UAE, Middle East and Pakistan, said: “Our ability to seamlessly collaborate across geographies enables us to harness the unique strengths of each market, fostering innovation and creating partnerships that drive sustainable growth in an increasingly interconnected world.”

It’s time to reveal the winners and runners-up in this year’s Weather Photographer competition! 🎉 More than 1,600 amateur and professional photographers from 84 markets entered this year’s competition, submitting more than 4,500 entries across the three categories. 🏆 Wang Xin of China, has come first place in the main category with their image ‘Sprites Dancing in the Dark Night’, which features red sprites, a type of electrical discharge that occurs high in the atmosphere. 🏆 Nur Syaireen Natasya Binti Azaharin from Malaysia has come first in the smartphone category with her image ‘Volcanoes’, with a view of smoking volcanoes in East Java, Indonesia. 🏆 Angelina Widmann of Austria, has come first place in the youth category with her image ‘Rain Aria’, which was shot during an open-air performance of Madame Butterfly in Bregenz, Austria. The winner of the inaugural Climate Award is Gerson Turelly of Brazil, for the photograph ‘Rowing’. The image shows the centre of Porto Alegre, Brazil, during the devastating Rio Grande do Sul floods in spring this year. He has also won the public vote award. Marisa Drew, our Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “The winning images in this year’s competition tell a powerful story about our planet and the extraordinary force of extreme weather events. “This is particularly true of the winner of our inaugural Climate Award, Gerson Turelly, with an image of the devastating flooding in Porto Alegre, Brazil. As headline sponsors of the Weather Photographer competition, we hope to raise further awareness about the threat posed by rising temperatures and associated extreme weather events.” Learn more about the finalists and runners-up at https://lnkd.in/e_6gePKG #scwpy #sustainability

Our Head of Nature Finance, Oliver Withers, is in Cali this week, taking part in the 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference, COP16. This is the first Biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework, a historic agreement committing nations to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Standard Chartered has a critical role to play and is committed to helping deliver this ambition by managing our exposure to nature-related risk and leveraging innovative financing mechanisms, such as blended finance, to mobilise capital & close the gap on nature funding. Hear from Oliver about how we’re working to contribute to the Global Biodiversity Framework.
