JNIM conducted an attack on the military airport in Bamako and the nearby Gendarmerie school in Faladie. The attack appears to have been conducted by 2 groups of JNIM fighters, based on videos released by the group of the attackers, who appear to have been surprised by the ease with which they gained access to the runway and targeted multiple planes, including the Presidential jet and Malian Army drones. The groups appeared to lack weaponry such as RPGs, given images showing them lighting objects on fire to place in the engine of the presidential jet, which likely indicated that the group did not expect to gain access to the planes and the presidential VIP terminal. The initial response by the Malian security forces was disorganised, and following the search and clearance operation, multiple arrests of suspected JNIM sympathisers occurred, and the reported lynching and burning of 2 suspected sympathisers in Bamako, with arrests reported to be targeting ethnic Touregs in the capital. The aftermath of the attack is likely to see widespread public anger at the ease with which the attack was conducted, the poor response from the security forces and Wagner and lead to further tensions amongst the five leaders of the government. Rare public displays of anger against the military government are likely to increase as the public, already suffering from an economic collapse, vent their anger at the inability of the government to protect the capital and the costs of the ongoing conflict on the population. JNIMs motivation in conducting the attack is likely twofold: firstly, to highlight the vulnerability of the regime and secondly, to target, if possible, drones and military aircraft, which have been key assets in the government's ongoing war against JNIM and EIGS. #SRMC #srmctribe #frontierrisks #securityriskmanagement #networking #lifelonglearning #Sahel #Mali #JNIM SRM Alumni Pete Lawrence Duncan Godfrey SIRM, FRGS Luke Blake MBA SRMC® CPP® Louise Coppack SRMC® Rowan Poulter Chris Watson CSMP MBA Frontier Risks Group Frontier Distance Learning

On the morning after, we take a look back at the end of the last week and the end of SRMC61..... Wednesday was a real treat for SRMC61 with Luke Blake MBA SRMC® CPP® teaching all things 'Resilience and Business Continuity', and then it was onto 'Disaster Management' with the amazing Gail Rowntree SFHEA, MEPS. On Thursday morning, we saw John Donald teach the 'Mastery of Risk'. This wild and wonderful lecture is often a course favourite, and this is a testament to Johns content and delivery. All that was to do then was for students to present their projects to a board of Industry experts, followed by breathing tuition and ice baths for the brave with Breatheolution (Kevin O'Neill). An interesting topic in the ongoing war in Ukraine is the diverse countries that international volunteers have come from, with one country heavily represented in the casualty figures being Colombia. When we think of international volunteers and mercenaries, we often think of Americans and Europeans. Yet, the presence of Brazilians and large numbers of Colombians indicates that South Americans are now among the most common volunteers present in Ukraine or that they are most likely to be killed in action in Ukraine. Highlighting the diverse globalisation of volunteers in the war in Ukraine. https://lnkd.in/etTMFSjd #SRMC #srmctribe #frontierrisks #securityriskmanagement #networking #lifelonglearning #ukraine #internationallegionukraine Pete Lawrence Duncan Godfrey SIRM, FRGS Luke Blake MBA SRMC® CPP® Rowan Poulter Louise Coppack SRMC® Dave Mycock SRM Alumni Frontier Risks Group Frontier Distance Learning Chris Watson CSMP MBA

Today is day 8 of the SRMC61 up at The Emergency Planning College (EPC), and it's time for Marcus Oldroyd from The Bureau Consultancy to take the centre stage. This day is a real course favourite, and using his many years of experience as a police negotiator, Marcus teaches students the skills of effective communication, and negotiating, which culminates in a simulated high-pressure crisis management exercise. Today is day 5 of SRMC61 and today we hear from Professor Edward Borodzicz, Author of Risk, Crisis and Security Management. Todays topic is Crisis, Disaster Management and Resilience, and at the mid way point students are separated into several groups and tasked with developing a crisis scenario. The groups are then put to the test resolving the crisis scenarios in a table top exercise. Edward really is a remarkable chap and offers huge personal insight into Crisis and Disaster Management, and we know the students will gain a lot from this day on course.
