When I moved into the house I hope will be my forever home two years ago, it was time for a mattress upgrade. But with my busy schedule as a working mom, not to mention all the tasks associated with moving, I didn’t have time for multiple trips to a mattress store to lie on mattresses and select one. So after asking around and doing some research, I decided on the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress, and I’m incredibly pleased with the decision. The mattress is thick, comfortable, and supportive and does not transfer any weight, meaning no disturbing your partner if you need to get up during the night.

Nectar Mattress specifications

  • Material: CertiPUR-US certified memory foams
  • Firmness: Seven out of 10
  • Trial period: 365 nights
  • Warranty: Forever for significant deterioration or physical flaws to the mattress or manufacturing defects in the mattress cover
  • Shipping method: Standard ground shipping (most ship within two business days)
  • Price range: $349 for a twin up to $1,098 for a split king

Nectar Mattress pros and cons

Pros:

  • Soft and comfortable
  • Supportive memory foam
  • No need for a box spring
  • Doesn’t transfer weight
  • Lots of extras, like pillows and sheets, are available at discounts or for free when you purchase a mattress
  • Easy to unbox

Cons:

  • If you get a king, like I did, the box is pretty huge and a little awkward to transport
  • For maximum comfort, Nectar recommends buying a foundation, base, or bed frame from the brand as well
  • The bed frames they sell are relatively low to the ground

Nectar Mattress price

First off, I should mention that Nectar is almost always having a sale. But even if that weren’t the case, the prices are extremely reasonable—much lower than other online memory foam mattress companies. Plus, you can package multiple items along with your mattress and the more things you buy, the more things you get for free. When I bought mine (right around Labor Day, a common time for additional sales), I got a king mattress, a king size bed frame with headboard, a mattress protector, a set of sheets, and two king size pillows all for just $1,589.50. Here are the current prices for different sizes of the Nectar Mattress.

  • Twin: $349
  • Twin XL: $549
  • Full: $599
  • Queen: $649
  • King: $849
  • California King: $849
  • Split King: $1,098
The Nectar Memory Foam Mattress

The Nectar Memory Foam Mattress

Nectar Mattress design

This is the first memory foam mattress I’ve owned, so I didn’t know much about what to look for in the design. But for folks who do, the Nectar Mattress has five layers. From top to bottom, those include a breathable cooling cover, two inches of therapeutic gel memory foam, a three-inch dynamic transition layer, a seven-inch ActiveSupport stability base layer, and a shift-resistant lower cover. In all, the mattress is 12 inches thick. The mattress is made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, meaning, it’s made without formaldehyde, ozone depleters, phthalates, mercury, lead, other heavy metals, or chemicals classified as carcinogens, mutagens, or reproductive toxins. It also means the mattress has low emissions of volatile organic compounds that could hurt indoor air quality.

Nectar Mattress firmness

I like a medium-firm mattress. Especially as I’ve gotten older and gone through two pregnancies, I prefer a mattress that holds me up and holds its shape to one I just sink into. For me, the Nectar Mattress is right in that sweet spot. On the website, Nectar lists the support at a seven out of 10, 10 being the most firm, while the Nectar Premier is an eight out of 10 and the Nectar Premier Copper is a nine out of 10.

Nectar Mattress support and comfort

I find the Nectar Mattress very supportive. I like to go to sleep on my side and then I typically wake up on my back, and the mattress is equally supportive and comfortable in both sleeping positions.

With my old mattress, I had to purchase a fancy, memory foam pillow because I was waking up with some neck soreness. When I was pregnant with my first child, I stacked pillows and adjusted things to be able to sleep comfortably. But with the Nectar Mattress, I use the basic memory foam pillow that I purchased with the mattress and have never had any issues with my neck or shoulders. Likewise, while I did use a pregnancy pillow, I achieved much more restful sleep during my second pregnancy on my Nectar Mattress than with my first one.

The mattress is also equally as comfortable no matter where you sleep. My 50-pound dog sleeps in the bed with me and my husband, and he occasionally likes to sleep on the outside, so one of us ends up right in the middle of the bed. I’ve never been able to tell the difference between my side and the middle. What’s more, after my daughter was born and slept in a mini crib in our room, my husband and I would swap sides of the bed depending on who was waking up to feed her in the night. Despite him having a different body type and a different preferred sleeping position, I was just as comfortable on his side of the bed as I was on mine.

Nectar Mattress performance

The most impressive part about the Nectar Mattress: There’s virtually no motion transfer. I haven’t tried the wine glass jumping test from those old TV commercials, but I’m fairly certain it would pass. When my daughter was a newborn, we did a lot of waking up and getting in and out of bed during the night. Now, my husband wakes up before I do to exercise. My dog will also occasionally change sleeping spots in the middle of the night, going from one side of the bed to the other. Not once have I been woken up by the mattress shifting, moving, or making noise.

Nectar Mattress delivery and setup

The Nectar Mattress is delivered rolled up in a box. While not as large as the mattress itself, the box was quite large, thick, and heavy. (For reference, the king mattress is 83 pounds, while the queen mattress is 66 pounds.) The box required two people to carry it up the stairs. But once you have it in your bedroom, you simply take it out of the box and let it expand. Nectar also offers something called Premium In-Home Setup, in which you can have the mattress delivered and set up and your old mattress removed at an additional charge.

Is Nectar Mattress for you? Who is this mattress best for?

I love my Nectar Mattress. One of the great things about memory foam is it’s adaptable to all body types and sleeping positions, making it a great mattress for side sleepers and back sleepers alike, so in that sense, there isn’t anyone for whom Nectar would be a bad choice. It’s also great for people who want a quality memory foam mattress at a reasonable price.

What sets Nectar Mattress apart from other mattresses?

For me, the biggest thing that sets Nectar apart from other mattresses is what you get for the price. For example, it’s a few hundred dollars less expensive than Casper, but with more layers of foam and technology for maximum comfort. Plus, it’s the only mattress with an unlimited, forever warranty.

Other mattresses from Nectar

In addition to the Nectar Mattress, Nectar sells the Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper. The Premier, which is $300 more than the Nectar Mattress, has an extra inch of height, more cooling technology, and a bit more support. The Premier Copper, which is $600 more than the Nectar Mattress, has another inch of height, even more cooling technology, and an extra inch of gel memory foam. Tip: For more in-depth info (and real-world testing results) on these mattresses, check out the Nectar Premier review and the Nectar Premier Copper review.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How long do Nectar beds last?

All mattresses, memory foam or otherwise, are designed to last eight to ten years before you start to notice changes like sagging, and Nectar is no different. However, this depends on things like your weight and sleeping position.

Is Nectar good for side sleepers?

I think so! I always start the night on my side and find it very comfortable.

Do you rotate or flip a Nectar Mattress?

You can rotate a Nectar Mattress regularly, as you would with a spring mattress, but you can’t flip it—or any memory foam mattresses, for that matter. The Nectar Mattress is designed with the cooling and comfort layers on top and a firm support layer on the bottom that is not meant to be slept on.

Are DreamCloud and Nectar the same company?

DreamCloud and Nectar are owned by the same parent company, Resident. Nectar focuses on memory foam mattresses, while DreamCloud makes hybrid mattresses, or a blend of memory foam and springs.

Does the Nectar Mattress come with a sleep trial period?

Yes! It has a 365-night risk-free trial period.

Does the Nectar Mattress come with a warranty?

Yes! The mattress has a forever warranty on significant deterioration or physical flaws to the mattress or manufacturing defects in the mattress cover.

Does the Nectar Mattress need a box spring?

No. Most memory foam mattresses do not need a box spring, just a solid, flat foundation or bed frame.

How does the Nectar Mattress ship?

The Nectar Mattress ships rolled up in a box. Depending on the size you order, the box might be quite big and heavy.

Final verdict

The Nectar Mattress is an affordable option that ticks all the boxes a memory foam mattress should: superior support, dreamy comfort, and minimal motion transfer. I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a memory foam mattress online.
