Use Gems in Gemini Apps

You can create and save Gems to customize responses in Gemini Apps to your specific needs.

What you need

Gemini Advanced or a Gemini for Google Workspace add-on.
- To use Gems with a personal Google Account, you must be a Gemini Advanced user. Learn more about Gemini Advanced availability and how to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
- To use Gems with a work or school Google Account, you must have a Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, or Gemini Education add-on. Learn more about using Gemini with a work or school account.
Gems are available in more than 30 languages. This feature’s availability in any specific Gemini app is also limited to the supported languages and countries of that app.

Important:

We’re gradually releasing Gems in the Gemini mobile app, so it might not be available to you just yet. If you don’t have Gems in the mobile app yet, you can use them in the Gemini web app.
When you create or chat with a Gem, remember that you agreed to Google's Terms of Service, including the Prohibited Use Policy. Be sure not to violate others' rights. Use your discretion before you rely on, publish, or use content that Gemini Apps generate. Users with a work or school account that has a Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, or Gemini Education add-on are subject to different terms. Get started

Important:

For now, you can’t generate images when using a Gem.
For now, Gems can’t be used with Gemini Live.
The Learning coach premade Gem doesn’t currently support language learning.

Create a Gem

On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
At the bottom left, click Gem manager .
Click New Gem.
Enter a name for your Gem.
Optional: Enter instructions for your Gem.
- Tips:
  - Adding instructions is highly recommended.
  - After a few words, you can click Use Gemini to re-write instructions to have Gemini Apps create more comprehensive instructions for most topics. It may take a few seconds for the generated instructions to appear. For now, this feature is not available in Arabic, Dutch, or French.
Optional: In the text box on the right, enter a prompt to preview the Gem and make edits to the instructions as needed.
Click Create.

Use a Gem in a chat

Go to gemini.google.com.
On the left under Gems, click on the Gem you want to use.
In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
Click Submit .

Pin and unpin Gems

In the Gemini Apps menu, the Gems you have used or created most recently will appear at the top of your Gems. You can pin Gems to move them to the top.

Go to gemini.google.com.
On the left under Gems, find the Gem you want to pin or unpin.
Next to the Gem, click More .
- To pin the Gem, click Pin .
- To unpin the Gem, click Unpin .

Edit a Gem

Go to gemini.google.com.
On the left under Gems, find the Gem that you want to edit.
Click More Edit .
Make edits.
Click Update.

Delete a Gem

Go to gemini.google.com.
On the left under Gems, find the Gem that you want to delete.
Click More Delete .

Why Gemini Apps might remove a Gem

Gemini Apps may remove Gems when our systems detect a possible violation of Google's Terms of Service, including the Prohibited Use Policy.
