Migrate users to managed accounts

Before Google Voice for Google Workspace was available, people in the U.S. could use their work or school account to sign up for Google Voice. You can migrate these unmanaged accounts to managed accounts.

Note: After you migrate a person's account, you can't switch it back to an unmanaged account.

Before you begin

  • People can't use their Voice numbers until you set up your Voice locations. For details, go to Add Voice locations.
  • You can only migrate the accounts of people with a Voice license. For details, go to Assign Voice licenses to users.
  • You can't migrate some types of accounts, such as Google Fiber or Google Fi accounts.
  • You can only migrate accounts with one number. To migrate an account with multiple numbers, the user must port, transfer, or delete their existing numbers until they have one left.

Note: Existing Voice data from the unmanaged account will be under the control of your organization. We recommend that you inform users about this change before migrating their account.
