Pages I created

Can you, if you have time, look at the pages I created. I think they can be improved on and is open to suggestions. Thanks. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 03:35, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cactusisme: If you give me one, and it isn't too long, I'll look at it when I have time. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:36, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe this, Monsters in Dungeons & Dragons Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 03:38, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: OK, I'm looking at it now. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:46, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: In general, I see that the article is not categorized and has broken references. It looks like it was copied directly from enwiki without any simplification. That can get the article deleted, so you might want to move it to your userspace to work on.
Comments on the lead:
  • There are complex words and words that could be changed to make things easier to understand. For example: variety, adapted, supernatural, fantastic, prominent, feature, typically, conquer, unique, influential
  • There is complex sentence structure. Most of the sentences could be divided into shorter sentences to make them easier to read and understand.
  • It might be helpful to break it into 2 or 3 paragraphs to make it easier for readers.
Comments on the list:
  • There are complex words. A few just near the beginning of the list are avaricious, spherical, aspects, aversions. There are many others in the rest of the list.
  • Complex and long sentences, as above.
It might help to look at things this way: our target audience is people who don't know English very well. If they come across a long sentence, they have to try to make sense of the whole thing all at once because they can't tell what pieces have to go together. If what they're reading has shorter sentences (which is how sentences are supposed to be here), they can evaluate a smaller piece at a time.
Here's an example. This is the first sentence in the article:
In the Dungeons & Dragons, the word monster refers to a variety of creatures, some adapted from folklore and legends and others created only for the game.
Here's how you could divide it into smaller pieces (with a little simplifying of words as well):
In Dungeons & Dragons, the word monster refers to different kinds of creatures. Some creatures come from folklore and legends. Other creatures were created only for the game.
Hope that helps. If you want to discuss it any more, let's move the discussion to the article's talk page. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:09, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 How do you fix reference errors? Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 08:20, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can't tell what you mean. Can you point to an article with an example of what you mean? -- Auntof6 (talk) 12:20, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted it from monster and dungeons but it is in the history Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 22:13, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) It happens because somewhere you have written something like <ref name="Apple" /> but you don't any reference named "Apple". It a trick used to cite the same source many times. ✩ Dream Indigo ✩ 01:31, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: Those are called named references. The kind of broken reference DI describes often happens when an article from enwiki is being adapted for here. If the part where a named reference is defined is removed but it's referred to in the text that's still there, you get this kind of broken reference.
Before you save a change or a new article, preview it to look for this and other kinds of issues, and take care of any that you find. That will help keep it from showing up in maintenance categories and needing cleanup. -- Auntof6 (talk) 02:19, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 Would you mind look into this new article I created, if you have time, Max Maeder Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:04, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And what categoryies are auitable to Regnal years of English monarchs Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:05, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: I categorized it. -- Auntof6 (talk) 10:27, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: I did some work on the article. The main things it needed were simplifying and more categories.
I noticed that you changed the term "the youngest winner in any Olympic sailing class competition" to "the youngest winner in any Olympic sailing competition", but that statement isn't true. As far as I can tell, he never won an Olympic sailing competition; he won a world championship. That is a top-level competition whose winners are likely to go on to the Olympics, but they are not the Olympics themselves. Please be careful when simplifying text from somewhere else. Sometimes it seems like a word can be left out, but doing so can change the meaning to something that is not true.
Speaking of text from somewhere else, it looks like you based the article on the enwiki article. If you did, please see Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution for information on the required step of giving credit to the source.
If you have any other questions, let me know. -- Auntof6 (talk) 10:51, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hello. Could you please delete Miah Madden for reason A4? The IP keeps on reverting my edits and I don't want to get in an edit war. Maggie🌺 talk edit 16:53, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miah Madden is notable, but the article is poorly made, which why i'm qd'ing for A1. RiggedMint 16:55, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Magnolioideae:  Done, but please make this kind of request on the admins' noticeboard. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:55, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and I'll make sure I report there instead. Maggie🌺 talk edit 16:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The unblock request that you declined seems to be based on an IP block (they seem to be caught in a CU range-block, please see the continuing discussion on the talk page's bottom). Should we give an IP block exemption? MathXplore (talk) 13:05, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore: I think an exemption would be OK. The only issues mentioned on their talk page that seem serious are related to thinking they were misusing the unblock template. -- Auntof6 (talk) 13:18, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. I have granted this for 1 month. MathXplore (talk) 13:23, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, an editor is requesting a page move of this category made by you (Special:Diff/9712102). What do you think about this? MathXplore (talk) 13:16, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore: That might be a better title, but I would point out to Cactus that matching enwiki is not enough of a reason to change a category name, and ask them why the change would be better. I would also point out that the current title and the proposed title are not the same. The current one is the nationality of the medalist, and the new one is which country they competed for. There can be cases where those are not the same, so if the categories are renamed, we should check each entry instead of automatically moving everything. -- Auntof6 (talk) 14:27, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Akiva

Hello, could you wikify my article Akiva, into more simplified English?--Alon9393 (talk) 18:49, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alon9393: Not right now, because there's an RfD on it. I don't want to work on it and then have the article deleted.
In general, I recommend that you learn how to write in simpler English yourself. It's not always easy. You could start with the following helpful pages:
Let me know if you have any questions about those pages. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:27, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user User:Davey2010 in question admitted his mistake, the article is clearly relevant. Alon9393 (talk) 14:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't admit anything?, I said "the subject appears to be notable, I didn't say he was...., But if Auntof6 or any admin/editor believes the subject is notable I would happily withdraw, I'm 50/50 so waiting for further comments, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 14:25, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alon9393: That doesn't change the fact that the RfD is still open. In general, I don't take requests to do this kind of work for someone else because people who create articles here need to know how to write in simple language. That's why I encourage you to learn how to do that for yourself. I might point out things that need simplifying to help you do that, but not while the RfD is open. Really, though, the most I would do right now is move it to your userspace. It can't stay the way it is because it's basically a copy of the English Wikipedia article. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:42, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article is not a translation from Wikipedia in English, since I started the article here in simple Wikipedia in English, see the creation history. Then I translated it into English. Alon9393 (talk) 16:08, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Auntof6. Please restore Sterilization of Native American women to my Draft: so I can finish WP:SIMPLEifying. That would be most helpful. Invasive Spices (talk) 21:55, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

flood flag?

Is flood flag necessary for adding Category:Epidemics to the pages? Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:10, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cactusisme: I wouldn't think there are enough pages to need it. Do you see a lot of pages it needs to be on?
By the way, I removed it from a page you added it to. That page was for a pandemic, not an epidemic. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:12, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, I saw, I did some too. There is many at List of epidemics Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:13, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: You need to pay attention to what the articles are actually about. A lot of the things in the list article are actually pandemics, not epidemics. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:14, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:15, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A pandemic is a type of epidemic. The enwiki article says this. Also some like Naples Plague are not pandemics because they didn't spread across the whole world. 73.170.137.168 (talk) 17:24, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A pandemic can be the end result of an epidemic, but they have their own definitions.
The Naples Plague by itself was not a pandemic, but according to en:Second plague pandemic, it was part of one. I've noticed that there are things in Category:Plague pandemics that probably should be under epidemics instead of plague pandemics. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:04, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: Also, please add it only to articles that are actually about pandemics. Don't add it to articles about diseases that happened to have a pandemic at some point. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:13, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: One further note: when you see that someone has just created a category, it's a good idea to see if they plan to populate it more before you start working on it. In this case, I had added everything I wanted to, but sometimes people are still working on it. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:20, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:20, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: And for now, please leave the category alone. You removed at least one thing that pretty obviously belongs there -- the article Pandemic itself -- and now I'm going to recheck to see if anything I put there has been removed. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:23, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
okay, Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:23, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have reverted all my edits Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:26, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactusisme: No, you haven't, but please just leave it alone. I'm going to recheck everything. -- Auntof6 (talk) 09:28, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh, okay Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:29, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
