Ronald Ernest "Ron" Paul (born August 20, 1935) is a Republican Congressman from the state of Texas.
He tried to become President of the United States in 1988 and 2008, but he was defeated both times. Currently, he is trying to become President again in the 2012 elections.
He is for lower taxes, freedom (he refers to "freedom" as Liberty a lot), minimal government and against interventionism (meaning that he does not want the United States to be militarily involved in foreign countries). He supports making United States money backed by a certain amount of gold, formally known at returning to the Gold Standard. The Gold Standard would prevent inflation (prices of items and services becoming more expensive) and the boom and bust cycle (recessions and depressions) from occurring.
He has influenced many libertarian grassroots movements.
Family
