Western Schism

The Western schism was a split within the Roman Catholic Church from 1378 to 1417. By its end, three men simultaneously claimed to be the true pope. It was mostly politics rather than any real theological disagreement, the schism was ended by the Council of Constance (1414–1418) when they elected Martin V.
