== Early career ==
Verstappen began [[Kart racing|karting]] at the age of 8,<ref name="8W">{{Cite web|title=Dutch courage: the unfulfilled promise of Jos Verstappen|url=http://8w.forix.com/verstappen.html|access-date=19 August 2014|publisher=8W}}</ref> and it was not long until he started at national competitions. In 1984 he became Dutch junior champion. He remained successful, and won two European titles.<ref name="8W" />
