In an intimate dialogue session, director and screenwriter Ossama Mohammed will discuss the evolution of his artistic practice and experiences making films independently under violent conditions in Syria. This talk offers a rare glimpse into the work of a filmmaker who has been exiled in Paris since 2011. We will be screening his short film, Step by Step (1978), prior to the conversation.

Anderson Le is the Artistic Director of the Hawai’i International Film Festival and programmer for the Far East Festival and the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival. Le has consulted for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival and Reel Asian. In 2020, he co-founded EAST, a transpacific production company. Their project MAIKA (2022) was an official selection of Sundance.

Cíntia Gil is a film programmer who formerly served as director of Doclisboa and Sheffield DocFest. Cintia co-created the cinema club Artistic Differences at UnionDocs, and has joined the programming team of the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. She is a member of the Board of Apordoc – Portuguese Documentary Association and has served on juries in festivals such as Berlinale, Cairo, and Mar del Plata, among others.

Ellen Y.D. Kim is the director of Asian Contents & Film Market, formerly Programmer and Programme Director for the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. She founded Flying Tiger Pictures, producing films such as Cry Woman (2002) which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard. At Bom Film Production, Ellen co-produced Night and Day (2008) and Come Rain, Come Shine (2011).

Park Kwang-su is the deputy director and co-founder of the Busan International Film Festival. Park initiated the Asian Project Market in 1998 and the Asian Contents & Film Market in 2006, and served as the founding director of the Busan Film Commission. Park led the Korean New Wave in cinema through films such as Chil-Su and Man-Su (1988), Black Republic (1990), and A Single Spark (1995).

Sung Moon is a programmer for the Jeonju International Film Festival, and has been involved in festivals and industry forums including Busan, Jeonju Project Market and Docs Port Incheon. She is a representative for Latin America at the Korean Film Council and established the Buenos Aires Korean Film Festival. She has also edited books such as What Will Be Of Cinema? (2021) and Tsai Ming-Liang – Walker Series (2004).
