Irena Stanisława Sendler (née Krzyżanowska, an aa referred tae as Irena Sendlerowa in Poland, Nom de guerre Jolanta; 15 Februar 1910 – 12 Mey 2008)[2] wis a Pols nourice/social wirker who served in the Pols Unnergrund durin Warld War II, an as heid o childer's section o Żegota,[3][4] an unnergrund resistance organization in German-occupied Warsaw. The Nazis eventually discovered her activities, tortured her, an sentenced her tae daith, but she managed tae evade execution an survive the war. In 1965, Sendler wis recognised bi the State o Israel as Richtous amang the Naitions. Late in life she wis awairdit Poland's heichest honour for her wartime humanitarian efforts. She appears on a siller 2008 Pols commemorative coin honorin some o the Pols Richteous amang the Naitions.
