Chiara Bertolin is Full Professor at NTNU, within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. She has a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Padua University, Italy. Her interests are inter-disciplinarily devoted towards the study of the impacts of climate change on the built environment, the study of microclimates for conservation, and the application of non-destructive techniques for monitoring and assessing the integrity of materials. The ultimate goal of her research concerns the enhancement of conservation and environmental sustainability. Chiara was the coordinator and Principal Investigator (PI) of the international project of "sustainable management of the building heritage in a long-term perspective", and she is the PI for Norway within the ANATOLIA project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), dedicated to the study of aerosols in the atmosphere. In 2018, she was invited to tale on the role of contributing author in the WG2 in the 6th Assessment Report (AR6) of the IPCC. She is an expert on the European Committee for Standardization CEN/TC346-WG7 and WG14. She has monitored and studied cultural heritage sites mainly in Italy and Norway, but also in Greece and Sweden. She has been a scientific consultant of UNESCO, the Civic Museums Foundation of Venice, and the Diocesan Museum of Udine in Italy.
