UPDATE, 4:10 p.m., June 28: Downtown Glens Falls traffic on Glen Street/U.S. Route 9, especially southbound, is at a near standstill as drivers look for alternates to Interstate-87. Officials closed two southbound lanes of the Northway early this morning, slowing the interstate to a crawl. The overflow has apparently found Route 9.

GLENS FALLS – An early morning commercial vehicle rollover between Interstate 87 Adirondack Northway exits 17 and 18 southbound backed up traffic for miles Friday morning.
New York State Police responded to calls at about 5 a.m. Friday of a commercial vehicle rollover crash in the median just south of Exit 18 said New York State Police Trooper Stephanie O’Neil.
“The driver of that vehicle was extracted and has been Med-Flighted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries,” O’Neil said around 9 a.m. Friday. “I do not have an update on their status.”

The commercial vehicle was the only one involved in the incident, and the driver was only person injured.
The left and center lanes of I-87 southbound between Exit 17 and Exit 18 continued to be closed about four hours after the incident. O’Neil said they will remain closed during the investigation and the vehicle recovery.
“That closure is anticipated to be for more significant time, I don’t have an exact estimate, but we’re talking more in an hours perspective, versus minutes,” O’Neil said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time, O’Neil said around 9 a.m. Friday.
A number of drivers reported the traffic along I-87 south being backed up for several miles in the hours following the crash.
