Concept I've been stewing on for a while here. I've got a name for it now and I'm calling it the Shot Dog Factor. It's a numerical value, assignable to any internet post, which represents the average number of engagements it needs to reach before someone comes along acting like this post shot their dog.

And for the sake of High Number = More Danger, which feels like the intuitive and sensible read, let's call it the inverse. As in the chance that any given interaction results in a Shot Dog response.

"Hee hee haa haa" type of silly shitpost? Low Shot Dog Factor. Largely safe. A genuine political opinion? Critically high Shot Dog Factor. Guaranteed to elicit such a response if it breaks containment.

As a result of this phenomenon, you see phrasings and circumventions added specifically to lower the Shot Dog factor. Every "now I know this doesn't apply to EVERYONE'S specific situation, but I just think--" about something where the non-specificity was obvious, but OP needed to add that disclaimer to avoid the Shot Dog from someone who thinks it needs to apply to them.

And another--perhaps the most--critical thing to understand about the Shot Dog factor is that 0 is not a valid value. There's a discontinuation at 0. And as such, the Shot Dog limit, as engagement goes to infinity is, in fact, 100%. Any and every post you have ever made, given enough containment breaching, WILL piss someone off in wild ways. You can lower the Shot Dog factor but it is never 0. Sometimes when a post of yours escapes containment, you must simply sit back and accept this reality.

In case any Americans are not aware of this: the rest of the world is FUCKING TERRIFIED of how this election is going to go. If trump wins, it affects more than just America. If trump wins, it will fuck so many other countries in so many ways.

So first of all, PLEASE VOTE. The rest of the world doesn't get to vote in your election, but we do get directly impacted by your election, so please do what we can't, and vote.

Secondly, remember that you're not just voting for America. You're voting on behalf of the all the countries that will be impacted by this election.

Please, for the love of God, vote blue, and save not just America from a second trump term, but the whole goddamn world.

The idea is the election is a critical thing to participate in, in addition to whatever other activism you can participate in.

I know this is a spot ask, but if you have fundraisers in mind to share especially for the global south like you mentioned, which is heavily ignored in American media, you can share them on this post and I’ll boost them.

Ok here at least I've been in communication with my friend Mohammed for months, I lost contact with him and his family for almost 2 months and I just couldn't take losing touch with them one more time.

So I did this post for them, even took a pic of the pots I painted to always have them present in my day to day.

I am Calli and I want to share with you the story about my dear friend Mohammed and his precious family.

Mohammed is a 37yo husband, father and engineer.

His biggest passion is his family: his wife Enas Majed, and kids, Layan, Sarah, Adam and baby Amir, born during the war.

He is an accomplished mobile developer. Just before this nightmare started, he had founded Brand Tech, a startup dedicated to web and mobile app development.

Amidst the horrifying conditions they're subjected daily, both Enas and him dedicate every effort to care for their kids and provide them basic necessities such as water, food, clean clothes, diapers, baby formula, etc.

But there is also sickness. His boy Adam needs treatment for hepatitis, while baby Amir has blisters on his feet even when provided with the best care his parents can give.

Providing them appropriate food has been a challenge with such high prices and limited supply.

Outside help is stuck in the borders. The best way to help is to give directly to them.

His campaign has been verified multiple times here, here, here and here. His campaign is #174 in the vetted Google doc.

He has also provided us with his other socials, such as: Linked, C V , GitHub and Instagram.

Donations go through GoFundMe and are protected.

I would put my hands on fire if it meant getting them all to safety.

My utmost desire is their safety, because the only worries they should have as parents is what gifts to give their kids on their birthdays.

See I think there’s more nuance to that.

The idea behind “your vote is free and secret” is that, historically, many governments have acted in a way where they–or those in power–could violently coerce you for your vote and could, legally, acquire the information of who your voted for and could, legally, inflict punishment on you. Being protected from that is absolutely, absolutely, critical for democracy.

You’re entirely entitled, to your very core fundamentals rights, to lie about who you vote for. To not answer. To ignore everything everyone tells you about who to vote for. And no one can take legal action against you for exercising that right.

However, given how critically important the election is to how the very country runs, everyone is equally entirely within their rights to advocate, promote, campaign for, make their opinions known, and exercise judgement on other people about it. The “your vote is free and secret” means you’re allowed to lie to your pushy aunt or ignore her and she cannot invoke any legal action against you to strong-arm any information. She can, however, be a jerk if she wants. It’s very similar to free speech in that sense.
