Description

Cloud-Services is the umbrella project for tasks related to the products managed by the Wikimedia Cloud Services team. A general overview of services offered can be found at wikitech:Help:Cloud Services Introduction

Subprojects:

Cloud Services Proposals - Enhancement proposals
Cloud-VPS - OpenStack virtual machines
- Cloud-VPS (Project-requests) - Requests for creating or deleting Cloud-VPS projects
- Cloud-VPS (Quota-requests) - Request increased quota for existing Cloud-VPS projects
- Horizon - User interface for managing Cloud-VPS projects and their virtual machines
Data-Services - Wiki replicas, content dumps, and shared storage
Toolforge - Platform as a Service hosting for bots, webservices, and analytics research
- Striker - User interface for managing Toolforge accounts and projects
Toolhub - Comprehensive tool catalog project
Tools - Bug reports for tools hosted on Toolforge
VPS-Projects - Bug reports for projects hosted on Cloud-VPS
wikitech.wikimedia.org - Operational issues about the wiki at wikitech.wikimedia.org itself

The team itself has a separate project at cloud-services-team that is used to track the backlog and current priorities of the team.

The tech spike I have been working on in T372498: Figure out how to provision a Kubernetes cluster using Magnum and OpenTofu could be a good hook for talking about Cloud VPS changes in the last couple of years. That spike is touching OpenTofu, Magnum, object storage, and GitLab CI on a quest to create a k8s cluster managed via gitops.

I was going to use the migration between the Cloud VPS projects to also migrate from .wmflabs.org to .wmcloud.org. I've already set up a proxy using the new domain in the catalyst project. The old proxy can remain under the visualeditor project until we're ready to delete it (which should make it automatically redirect to the new one, according to https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_a_web_proxy_to_reach_Cloud_VPS_servers_from_the_internet#Migrate_from_a_*.wmflabs.org_proxy_to_a_*.wmcloud.org_proxy, but I'm a bit scared to test that since I can't undo the deletion).

CAS 7.0 (what we are currently migrating to) removed the memcached backend. As such, this change won't be needed anymore for the idp servers, I'll tick them off.
