PHOENIX, AZ โ€” The first day of fall on Wednesday hit the Valley with a high of 103 degrees. That's 4 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

That could be an omen for what's to come this fall in the Phoenix area. There's a significant chance that this fall could be warmer than normal, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in its updated predictions.

Its climatologists say that there's also a moderate chance of drier-than-normal conditions in the Valley this fall as well.

Wednesday was Phoenix's 103rd day this year that reach 100 degrees or hotter, according to the National Weather Service. That's slightly below average and a huge drop from last year's brutal 145 days in triple digits.

The weather service predicted a high Thursday of 101 with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday evening.
