US Forest Service District Fire Management Officer shares his experience with chief foresters from state forestry enterprises of Zhytomyr oblast
On February 23, 2018 US Forest Service District Fire Management Officer Nikia Hernandez provided a seminar-training for chief foresters of state forestry enterprises of Zhytomyr Oblast Forestry and Game Management Administration. The seminar-training was organized by Regional Eastern European Fire Monitoring Center (REEFMC) that based in the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv in a framework of technical assistance project of the US Forest Service International Programs.
The purpose of the seminar-training was to share with Ukrainian fire managers of knowledge and practice of fire management in the United States.
Before the training, the participants visited the State Enterprise "Radomyshl Forestry" and got acquainted with the forest fire station organization, machinery models and equipment for fires detection and extinguishing, as well as got the idea of working conditions of firefighters of the enterprise.
Participants of the training were provided with information on the US Forest Service organizational structure, the features of interagency coordination in the case of a fire, use of ICS (Incident Command System), training and qualification requirements of firefighters, machinery models, equipment of fire crews working in the course of fire elimination, features of engaging aviation and smokejumpers, as well as fire prevention measures and work with public.
