TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) warned on Wednesday (July 3) that Taiwan will experience a significant rise in temperatures on Friday and Saturday, with the Greater Taipei area potentially exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
The Pacific high-pressure ridge will intensify and extend westward, leading to higher temperatures across the island. Lin noted that the most noticeable temperature increases will occur in northern Taiwan.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported that Taiwan will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with occasional scattered showers in the southeastern region and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).
The CWA also highlighted that western Taiwan and mountainous areas could experience brief thunderstorms this afternoon. Locals in central and southern regions should remain vigilant for heavy rain.
The agency mentioned that the strengthening Pacific high-pressure system will bring southeastern winds, resulting in hot weather with temperatures ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and potentially over 37 degrees in central and southern regions.
The southeastern region and Hengchun Peninsula will experience sporadic short-term showers from Thursday to Saturday. The CWA forecasts that due to thermal effects, central and southern regions and mountainous areas will see brief thunderstorms in the afternoon.
On Saturday morning, land-sea wind convergence may cause scattered rain in central and southern regions, with localized heavy rain expected in the afternoon in southern areas and mountainous regions north of central Taiwan.
