KU earns ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Silver Seal
LAWRENCE — A national awards program that honors colleges and universities for their commitment to increasing student voting rates has recognized the University of Kansas for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge uses data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement to award various seals of excellence in student voter participation. KU’s 2022 student voter rate of 33.1% earned the institution a Silver Seal.
“The ALL IN Awards were created to celebrate nonpartisan democratic engagement and the outstanding campus voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

"Since KU joined the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge in 2016, Chancellor Douglas A. Girod has signed the Higher Education President’s Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation to demonstrate the university's institutional commitment to student civic participation," said Kate Kemper, Center for Service Learning program manager. "Members of the CSL team and individuals from the Dole Institute of Politics have also consistently engaged in the Big 12 Votes Challenge to connect with others across our athletics conference. We are all excited to support students and our university community as they participate in the upcoming election.”
KU’s NSLVE reports and campus action plans can be found on the university’s ALL IN Challenge webpage. The Center for Service Learning and the Dole Institute of Politics co-support the creation of KU’s campus action plan, which is submitted to the ALL IN Campus Democracy challenge every two years.
The Center for Service Learning encourages members of the KU community to update their voter registration, explore deadlines and voter ID policies relevant to their state, and preview their November ballot.
Members of the KU community also are invited to join the Center for Service Learning and others in promoting civic engagement at KU in preparation for future election cycles by becoming a Civic Engagement Ambassador. The CSL Ambassador program connects faculty, staff, students and community partners who are interested in promoting service learning and civic and community engagement. Those interested can sign up online.
