The Gold
(2023)

Stellar cast, compulsive viewing
Absolutely loved this! What a cast! Hugh Bonneville and Jack Lowden were a truly charismatic duo playing goodie vs baddie.

Beautifully filmed with cleverly scripted witty dialogue. Although I was 26 when the Brinx Mat robbery took place I was only vaguely aware of the characters and the "how" of the story so it was fascinating to watch it unfold without really knowing how it ended. As it happens there was an opening left for a potential 2nd series. I tried not to, but couldn't wait and binged the last few episodes on iPlayer. I'll definitely make a point of watching anything Jack Lowden is in in the future...

Empire of Light
(2022)

So glad Fate decided we should watch this!
I almost didn't go after reading the marmite reviews, not wanting to be disappointed with a film that the fantastically talented Olivia Coleman was in.

We were booked to see The Menu but due to a last minute technical hitch our tickets were cancelled and we decided since we were there we might as well watch it.

Olivia knocks it out the park again, she's ridiculously good. I loved every little understated detail about this film from the snow crystals on her boots at the beginning to the lipstick on her teeth later on. It was like going to Disneyland and realising there wasn't a crack on the pavement that wasn't meant to be there. The cinematography was exceptional. Such a talented cast - Michael Ward, Toby Jones, Colin Firth all created very credible characters that drew you in and made you sad, happy, and laugh.

Don't believe the negative reviews this is a really beautiful, poignant film. At the end we just kept repeating "I'm so glad we came to see this"

The Adam Project
(2022)

Sit back, chuckle and enjoy
Entertaining action with amusing likeable characters. Absolutely nothing to dislike about this movie .

Mark Ruffalo and Ryan Reynolds dont disappoint and provide an easy family watch.

The Batman
(2022)

Couldn't last the 3hrs
It felt interminably long, permanently raining and permanently night. Didn't care about any of the characters, so after a particularly looong car chase in the dark we decided to cut our losses and leave (about 1.5hrs in) Any episode of the Gotham TV series would've been hugely more entertaining.

Four Lives
(2022)

Four lives
Grim true life crime told sympathetically with credible performances all round, of four family's fight for justice. Sheriden Smith and Stephen Merchant both looking very comfortable in their roles. You're left with equal measures of anger at the perpetrator of the horrific crimes and the incredible incompetence of the police.

Showtrial
(2021)

Clever writing and great acting
Very clever writing and superb acting gets you rooting for the most unlikeable character by the end. A smirk has rarely been so annoying! Tracy Ilfeachor is absolutely mesmerising as the solicitor. Loved it!

The Pact
(2021)

OK but instantly forgettable
Some solid performances, I love Eddie Marsden more every time I see him. Entertaining enough but none of the "twists" - particularly the final one, were even remotely a surprise.

Possibly worth a binge watch but not worth waiting for each week.

Colony
(2016)

Great and disappointing in equal measure
Really excellent series but don't start it if you don't want to be left high and dry on a cliff hanger. The series was cancelled and there are no plans for anyone else to pick it up :-(

Us
(2019)

Really poor ending- don't bother
Film was motoring along at a relatively ok 6.5/7 until the final scene..... the "plot twist" is totally not remotely credible, and it drops to a 4 - not worth watching. Ham fisted attempt to mislead the audience as a "Woah!" ending.... leaves you irritated instead.

Bulletproof
(2018)

What's with all the negative reviews?
Genuinely can't understand the number of negative ratings? What's the matter with people? Have people been paid to write those ridiculous reviews? This is a great show, good chemistry between the main actors, witty dialogue and plenty action - nothing not to enjoy!

Staged
(2020)

Thank goodness for 2nd series!
As we are entering another stay at home lock-down, in the middle of a dark snowy winter - thank god for this engaging pair of clowns. Love, love, love this show

The Sister
(2020)

Just as well it was only 4 episodes
If it had been a full length series I'd have given up but as it was only 4 episodes I stuck it out..... but it was pretty awful. You couldn't care less about any of the characters or what happened and I just said Nope! at the final scene

Treadstone
(2019)

Probably best to binge this series...
Similarities between the 3 main male characters and the convoluted time jumps may be a bit confusing if you're waiting 7 days between episodes. For some reason the main female character ages far more than anyone else... only worked out she was who she was, when someone called her by her earlier name, about half way through the series! Fairly solid entertainment once you've worked out who's who!

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
(2019)

A 2hrs old school beat em up video game
Really liked the first 2 films in the series... really disappointed with this one. It was long repetitive non stop fight from start to finish. There was probably only 15 minutes of dialogue in the whole film!

A Christmas Carol
(2019)

Absolutely loved it.... no cheese here!
A very refreshing take on a tired tale that has had many cheesy retellings. I hope they show it every year and to all the current cabinet ministers "that they might see the truth"... as Mary Cratchit said "there is still much to do "

The Witcher
(2019)

Difficult to follow if you don't know the story
For someone who hasn't read the books or played the game, with so many characters the time jumps were too confusing. This wasn't helped by two of the main characters not aging. Hopefully season 2 won't be so all over the place!

Traces
(2019)

Definitely worth a binge watch!
Watched this series without knowing anything about it so the great cast was a pleasant surprise. Interesting plot easily has you clicking 'Yes, play next episode'. Definitely worth a binge watch!

Late Night
(2019)

Predictable, clichéd... disappointing
I had high hopes from the trailers and Emma Thompson's current stellar performance in Years and Years. After forcing a few laughs because I really wanted to like it, I knew it wasn't going to be great about 20 minutes in and was completely cringing by the last half hour. If it had been on TV you'd have switched over
