Kabir Singh
(2019)

Name a better performance than Shahids..
It's a case of grudging respect.. Jab We Met surprised me, Udta Punjab had me paying attention, This blew me away. What a performance, what a movie.. apart from the ending( This deserved a tragic, macabre finish..) This was one hell of an experience. Shahid.. Salute..

Asambhava
(1984)

Masterpiece
I saw this as a child, but the movie made such an impact even then. Saw it today 35 odd years later and it still has the same impact. A big salute to the team that made this on a 0 budget.

Ghost Stories
(2020)

Decent but no Cigar
A lot of the 1/10 reviews are simply a result of the expectations built up by the 4 big name director. Zoyas segment is well directed, Dibakar Banerjees is very good, Karan Johars below average and Anurag Kashyaps simply rubbish Worth a watch.

Bypass Road
(2019)

Lightweight thriller
Brilliant cinematography, paper thin script.. how many times have we seen this before. If only some effort(ability)was put into the writing we would have had something decent here. NNM is a decent actor who desperately needs a good project. This could have been it.

I, Claudius
(1976)

Magical!
I wasn't exposed to Roman history.. luckily as a Robert Harris fan I got through the Cicero trilogy, which led me to Robert Graves, Which led me to this. I consider I Claudius the best show I have ever seen. 2007s Rome which is mounted on a monumental scale pales in front of this. The Beebs finest work imo..

Rome
(2005)

Engaging but NOT I Claudius
A bit surprised with all the 10/10 reviews. Rome is engaging and a decent watch. I guess watching this after the BBC masterpiece I Claudius probably left me a little cold. For those who loved this.. please do watch The Beebs masterpiece.

Love Ni Bhavai
(2017)

Middling cinema
Sweet, silly ,unimpressive yet watchable. If this is land mark Gujarati cinema then let's keep waiting for ache din. Decent but no big deal.

Laal Kaptaan
(2019)

WTF
I havent posted a review for 7 -8 years.. This forced my hand. First of all Saif may not be important at the Box office but boy is he doing some good stuff. This movie completely bowled me over.. An absolute masterpiece. Woh Zakhm hi kya jo dikh jaye..

India's Most Wanted
(2019)

Poor
The movie could have been fantastic if someone like Neeraj Panday was at the helm.. direction is really poor here and Arjun Kapoor should be nowhere near a camera. Wasted opportunity..

Meri Pyaari Bindu
(2017)

Outstanding
I dont get the lukewarm response this movie recieved. Brilliant performances all round and such a well crafted screenplay along with a soul stirring score.. This was a beautiful emotional experience..

Mirzapur
(2018)

Speechless..
This series left me speechless. End off. Big Sacred Games fan, to be fair that is probably better written. But the performances here, The screenplay are better then anything since GOW. The character of Munna Bhaiya and Kaalim Bhaiya are now immortalised. I was rooting for the bad guys that's how well written the roles are. Bring on season 2!

Chhichhore
(2019)

Feel good factor
A sweet movie with its heart in the right place. The writing and screenplay had flaws but the movie still was engaging enough to have sniffles and roars of laughter in the audience. Sushants performance was the big minus for me. Hamming straight from the SRK school of over acting. Nevertheless a very good movie.

Murder on the Orient Express
(2017)

Did Brannagh actually bother reading Christie?
'Strange small man with an oval head, and shiny green eyes'.. Thats Poirot. Suchet perfected it. Kenneth Brannagh really??, whilst I thought he acted reasonably well, better than Finney actually, cmon some resemblence to the iconic character is surely needed?

Running all over the train, on top, unde??, what happened to Poirot letting his brain cells doing the work? If this wasnt an adaptation it would have been enjoyable, but if you are a Poirot fan, this is just insulting.

The Crown
(2016)

Gripping!
Watched this right after Victoria and Abdul which was moronic. Not generally into series, I keep finding excuses not to bother with stuff like Game of Thrones, but The Crown, blew me away.. Claire Foy as Elizabeth,Jared Harris as Bertie and Matt Smith as Prince Phillip own their roles. John Lithgow as Churchill is astounding. As someone who loves reading biographies (currently devouring Jenkins Gladstone) This mixes historical accuracy with drama exceedingly well. Cant wait for season 2!

Bade Dil Wala
(1983)

Extremely entertaining potboiler
This movie sums up the very best of the 80s, A phenomenal music score - Rd in fine form, Rishi kapoor at his spontaneous best and Tina munim absolutely ravishing. A fun story line, This is no classic, and all the better for it. The innocence, humour and romance in movies like this, Yeh vaada raha, Zamane ko dikhana hai, Jailyatra are sadly lost forever. This makes for a great night in. A must for Rishi fans.

Badlapur
(2015)

Abig yes.
Very good gritty revenge caper. Varun shines here and this boy will go far. Nawazuddin is amazing as the unrepentant, lying loser. No clichés, our hero has no issues sleeping around while mourning his love, This is almost a classic. Despite the stretched ending this easily falls in the Ek hasina thi. Johnny Gaddar category. A must watch.

Ittefaq
(2017)

Why Sidhart?
Decent movie if you don't compare it with the magical original. My question is, What is the logic of starring Sidhart malhotra?? The original had Rajesh Khanna, the most expressive actor of all time. How do you replace him with the most expressionless actor of all time? The miscasting aside i enjoyed the movie and thought akshay was outstanding. Sonakhi too was perfectly cast. Easy 7/10

Khuda Kasam
(1981)

Classic!
I was 5 years old when this released.. The trailer kept playing on every movie on VHS, so much so that i knew every scene in order.. Anyway watched it at the cinema and boy did it stay with me. A great music score, fun script and solid cast give a fun ride. The movie has aged very well, watched it recently and still loved it. Vk, Tina Munim, Ajit and Pran are all in top form. A real trip down memory lane...

Airlift
(2016)

Hats off to an Actor i couldn't once stand!
Akshay Kumar is some one i used to laugh at, and not because of his comedy.. Through the 90s when he was popular, he summed up bad acting and bad taste,. In the noughties he became a comedian and even more popular, still couldn't stand him, felt his comedy was crass and contrived. And then god knows what happened, he suddenly started consistently giving good movies and good performances.. I was left speechless at his work in Airlift along with Rustom and Baby.. What a turnaround.. Respect. Great, Great Movie.

Love Games
(2016)

Not bad at all
Its easy to trash erotic thrillers, very easy especially if vikram bhatt happens to be involved. While this is no cinematic masterpiece and those expecting one need to get themselves examined, it was a fun DVD watch, i wasn't bored for a second. Very good performances all round and a good night in.

Ted
(2012)

family ted
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's debut feature is crass and sexist. It wallows in nostalgia, flirts with racism, spends too much time scampering after a plot. It's also the funniest film of 2012. A raucous insult to good taste and good sense that warps the template of the American boy-man comedy into horrible new shapes.

Ted – a cuddly toy bear brought to life after a wish upon a star – is a miracle turned sour. The public got bored of sentient "Teddy". He's become a grizzled former celebrity – a tired little weed-smoking, beer-swilling teddy bear. He spends his days on the sofa, distracting his childhood buddy John (Mark Wahlberg) from committing to his girlfriend, Lori (Mila Kunis).

It's been said that MacFarlane will aim his vicious wit at anyone except the white middle-class male. But Ted is as much about the frustrated nature of wastrels like John as it is a showcase for the world view of a gratuitously obscene teddy bear. MacFarlane makes it clear – after all the cruel jokes and bitchy asides – that John isn't happy, hasn't been for a long time. And Ted's the reason. John starts to see Ted for what he is: a weary Boston meat head, made funnier and sadder for being trapped in the body of a children's toy. It's in the dissolution of their long-term friendship that the film really bites.

If you need to intellectualize your enjoyment of MacFarlane's comedy further, you could point to the tragedy of Ted's ageless existence. Or the director's skewering of a society that so quickly tires of an anthropomorphic teddy bear. Or you could just laugh until your stitches burst at a whacked-out cuddly toy extolling the merits of a strain of weed called "They're coming! They're coming!" i did.

Jimmy
(2008)

so bad that its unmissable!
Jimmy is that rare thing - a film so bad that it's good. True Bollywood connoisseurs have a list of these, which usually includes Sheetal's Honey and Manoj Kumar's Clerk . These are films that exist in a parallel universe. These are films that feel delirious, like the director was either smoking something strong or was suffering from some tropical malady. Basically these are films that become sources of pure, unintentional comedy. Jimmy is that and more. It's a blast from the past. Director Raj N. C. Sippy transports you straight to the 1980s, when he was making films like Satte Pe Satta and Shiva Ka Insaaf . So Jimmy, played by Mimoh Chakraborty, is a virtuous son who is an automobile engineer by day and a DJ by night. His loving mother follows him around with breakfast but he never has time to eat it because he is too busy trying to repay his dead father's loan. They don't have much money but the mother serves breakfast wearing pearls. Jimmy falls in love with the worst car driver in the world. She hits him three times and even breaks his leg but soon they are singing songs. Only she's a rich man's daughter and of course trouble ensues. This is the kind of movie in which villains laugh and glare. The dialogue is comically bad. But my favorite moment came when the girl's father told a nasty suitor that his daughter cannot marry him. He screamed " you are a rejected person." There is no craft to speak of here and the camera-work is perhaps the only thing worse than the acting. So the only question is: how does Mimoh fare? Well as the advertising promised us: he does have dance in his DNA. Mithun Chakraborty was once hailed as this nation's disco dancer and his son can burn up the dance floor. Unfortunately for him he wants to be an actor. For that, he's going to need everything from a script to a better voice to a stylist. Many hours after the film, I was still wondering what was going on with Mimoh's hair - at one point, it goes from straight to curly in one scene. And who selected his clothes? In a hospital scene, he is wearing a red T-shirt that says 'Let me show you my pony'! What separates Jimmy from the routinely bad movies that hit multiplexes every week is its total disconnect from Bollywood reality or any other reality known to mankind. I cannot recommend that you spend 200 rupees on it but do see it when it's out on DVD, preferably after you have imbibed some intoxicants yourself. I haven't laughed this much all month.

Hulchul
(1971)

ring ring...
A welder working late at night on a bridge overhears a a man tell his girlfriend of his impending plan to murder his wife Mrs jeitley!... The welder rahlan calls all 3 jeitleys in the telephone directory warning them. all 3 households have motives for murder...

Zeenat Aman makes her debut in a minor role, but one look at her and its obvious shes a star of the future.

A young kabir bedi also makes his debut.

O P Rahlan has a great touch as a director, loved his previous movie talaash too. Wonder where he disappeared to.

very interesting premise, a must watch. almost hitchockian theme.

All the Best: Fun Begins
(2009)

paracetamol 500 mgs
Im a fan of Rohit Shettys, hes one of the few directors who draw audiences to the theatres.. loved the 2 Golmaals & Sunday & was excited to watch this travesty... please please stay away..what the hell happened here, did rohit & Ajay just go out & fleece the distributors, no story, no humour you can tell the movies been made at the lowest cost possible & sold high due to the pairs impressive track record....i have a root canal procedure going on, even thats more enjoyable than this..OK IMDb says i need min ten lines before i can post so here goes... bad... bad.... bad... bad bad... bad.... bad... badbad... bad.... bad... badbad... bad.... bad... badbad... bad.... bad... bad

Shootout at Lokhandwala
(2007)

almost fantastic!
Based on True events leading to the famous encounters at lokhandwala in 1991, Shootout at lokhandwala is a gritty, macho & very commercial portrayal of events that took place leading to the encounters.

Sanjay Dutt plays ACP Shamsher Khan who was charged with working for Dawood Ebrahim, the movie lets you decide whether that indeed was the case, Sanju puts in a bravura performance, hes never been cooler. Vivek Oberoi as Gangster Maya Dolas is also fantastic, great to see the lad back in form, he reworks the magic of "chandu" from company. Suneil shetty & arbaaz khan are both also first rate as sanjus sidekicks.

The real weakness of the movie lies in the rest of the gangsters especially Tushar Kapoor, cmon no ones ever going to take him seriously as a Bhai?! There are 3 Mujra songs which further slow down proceedings, but having said that Shoout out at Lokhandwala is a fantastic Commercial thriller, i give it an 8.
