Longlegs
(2024)

This was not Se7en
I appreciate neo noir films as I loved Se7en which is on my favorite movie list. This film starts off ok and actually would have been alright if the story was believable. A few things...This has to be one of the most terrified FBI agents Ive ever seen. I think the FBI has standards so you have to past a psychological exam before getting the job. I dont think she would have past. This women shaked so much I thought she had Parkinsons. But even if just traumatized from her past I dont believe she would be in the FBI acting like that. So long legs tied mom up who begged for her daughter and in turn she had to drop dolls off at houses so entire families could be killed. Huh??? Hmmm once she got untied why not just go to the police and report crazy dude...just a thought. There was no real character development which would have added to the believability that the devil was really at work here and these are his minions. The film had so much potential and the acting was good. Nicholas cage although over the top seemed to do what the writers wanted. I was disappointed with the ending...as it just ended. Some say this was the best horror film in a decade but ahhh no. It was a decent neo noir film that ended not well.

The Unholy
(2021)

An unholy waste of time
Ridiculousness at its best. So lets get started, Death girl just standing on a dark road at night. If you know any catholic church in horror films the doors are heavy so noone heard her go out at night?

The priest just happens to see smoke from a cigarette go into a crack in the wall and what do you know, paperwork about the demon lucky him.

People pray to God, to Jesus, but devoting yourself to the virgin Mary??? Hmmm I would think thats a red flag.

So they go to the church archives and find the same book that the priest had that proved Mary was a demon...hmmm..I dont buy it. When did he bring it there and why would he bring it there? Why not bring it somewhere so you can tell people and show them the proof that its a demon doing these miracles.

Also they found that book in the basement pretty quick. They barely had to look.

So if I tell people I made the story up they are going to believe me over the boy who couldnt walk and the girl that couldnt here? Come on now...Hey I guess thats the placebo effect.

Lastly if the girl was the last descendent and now shes dead so the demon is dead why would you want the girl to be alive again. Wouldnt that mean the demon can still be live? Makes no sense. Watching this film was an unholy waste of time. This film had more plot holes than a cemetary.

Lava Storm
(2008)

Ridiculously Bad
Ok, I've seen some bad B Movies but this one here.... The story itself is just not good which is normal for most disaster movies but couple that with a bad script, longer than should be scenes, adult combative at the worst possible time, annoying teanagers who act like little kids. How many times can the mother get stuck before she stops climbing through mines, do you really think it's a good idea to stand in front of a damn you are trying to destroy with your son by your side, and you out run the water huh???. By the way in less the two minutes the son tells his father to piss off then says he wants to go with the only man he truly respects...his father. This movie smh...I'll never get that time back.

Hold the Dark
(2018)

You should not need to read the book to understand
I love suspenseful films. This film truly was suspenseful good acting etc. But, too many things were not explained. Why kill the police if you were going to find the wife and be with her anyway. Why not just leave. Why would you need the file from the police to figure out where she'd gone. It came in a dream anyway. Why grab her by the neck if u were just going to make love to her unless that's just what's she's into. At the end she says now you understand. Well I didnt. Luckily another person on this post read the book after watching the movie and explained these two weren't just married but also siblings. That's still strange and doesn't explain why they are together in that way but I uest you would need to read the book. Besides the questions and the non explainable ending it was aight.

A Star Is Born
(2018)

Great film!
Had a choice between this film and an action film. This got hire ratings so I watch the trailer again and decided on this film. Based on the trailer I thought the characters were country music stars, to my surprise he is basically a rock star and she a pop star. Bradley Cooper was great as usual, for Lady Gaga this was the perfect role. The acting was well done, the love story so beautiful, the hereditary alcoholism was real. Although a good film there two areas that could have been better, 1. If Bradley Cooper's character was such a big star why was there no paparazzi all the time he was hanging around town, sleeping in the grass, etc. 2. Jackson taking his own life for fear of ruining his wife's career was not believable. Allys manager was actually right....not very tactful but right but even still we are to believe that Jackson was so distraught that he would end it all? And him telling a story of him trying to kill himself a 13 but failed to help justify why he died this way. Overall this was a great film!

Jack Ryan
(2018)

Loved it!!!
I have been a fan of the Jack Ryan films ever since the beginning. I remember a line from the film Clear and Present Danger where the wife said you can't go back to the bureau the bureau almost killed you and almost destroyed our marriage. Based on that statement I knew that there was a back story which was originally attempted by the film Shadow Recruit however, although I like the film that film did not do the Back story Justice especially with the involvement of the girlfriend/fiance. This most recent series however seems to be more in line with the later films. Its more believable of the history and development of Jack Ryan. There was enough suspense from beginning to end and each episode got better and better. My only complaint was Ryan's sense of righteousness which could have interfered with their finding Hanin. At some point this extremely intelligent person should know to play along in order to achieve a bigger goal. Other than that I can't wait for season 2 to come.

How It Ends
(2018)

How it ends....it doesn't
When the ending of a film sucks people get upset and end up not liking the entire film instead of just the end. Me on the contrary I can watch and appreciate a film even if the ending sucks. Of course I'd be disappointed as I was with this but it was a good film up until the very end. Also I like the actors. Theo James from the Divergent series and Kat Graham from Vampire diaries are decent actors but Forest Whitaker was good as always. This film is a perfect example of wrongly setting up for a sequel. What could have fixed this film?...."To be continued" at the end. At least that way we wouldn't think the director went to sleep at the end.

Roxanne Roxanne
(2017)

Was the music not cleared?
I grew up near New York during the time of Roxanne's career. Shante was known for battling and, although not the first female MC, was the first I can remember doing a response record on wax that became popular. There were some good actors in the film and of course the person playing Shante and my future one day in my dreams baby mama Nia Long were great. Having said that, Shante to me was never a superstar such as an MC Lyte or Queen Latifah but that was more so because Shante was out earlier than those MCs and the state of rap was different during her reign for females. Having said all that, after watching this film with this abrupt ending I felt like something was missing. I thought her struggles with her mother, relationship, and Marley Marl were noted, but again something from this film was missing. Sure they showed other rappers at the time i.e. MC Shan, Biz Markie, Sparky D (always thought her delivery was better than Shante's), etc but something was missing. When the abrupt ending took place and she was in the projects with her mother listening to the Legendary Nas rap as a child and then it went off I felt that I missed something. I went to bed that night closed my eyes and then it hit me. The music. If you watch Notorious, Walk the Line, Straight Outta Compton, New Edition, The Doors, The Temptation, Ray Charles, the one thing that stayed constant to making those good movies is the director did not only show case skills but also had music in those movies created by the artist the biopic was about and/or music from other artists at the time. This movie basically played one song...Roxanne's Revenge. They didn't even play the original song Roxanne Roxanne of which prompted Marley to ask her to make the response record. Where was all the other music from that time to help with the atmosphere of the movie? Even when she went to do a different song live, it was done to Beat Box so no music had to be played. So my question is did they not get clearance from Warner Bros. or whoever was distributing their music at the time? In spite of that they did a decent movie without music from the artist. Lastly, at the end of the movie she talks about her album coming out. They did not even discuss the album she was going to come out with which I assume had the songs "Have a Nice Day" and my personal favorite "Go On Girl". The story was ok, was more nostalgic for me remembering those times but not something I would rush to see again.

Bailout: The Age of Greed
(2013)

Do you know what would send you over the edge?
This was a great film! I have heard others remark that it was slow in the middle but in my opinion the build up was so important. Take a man who loves his wife, has a good job but then ends up loosing his life savings, in debt by no actions of his own, looses his home, his job, and his wife's dies all in a short period of time and all tied to the financial markets either directly or indirectly. I can understand why he snapped. Certainly could never justify taking a life but in the film dude felt like he had nothing to loose and went for broke. This film touched on what many, even if they don't admit (some do), that they would like the brokerage firms and banks who sold funds and mortgages to people, which contributed to the collapse in the financial markets and caused many to go in debt or loose their life savings, to pay for what they have done. I enjoyed the build up as the director showed this man slowly getting more and more upset to the point where he becomes so distance. I Enjoyed the action as well. So this was a realistic and action pack film that delve into the psychological ramifications of what happens when some feel the have been pushed over the edge.

U.F.O.
(2012)

Not the worst movie, Certainly not the best, Terrible name for this film.
First off let me be honest, I direct short films. So my perspective may or may not be what others have experienced while watching this film. I am also an avid film watcher. Watched over 400 films last year alone. That being said, I had to write a quick review about this film. Unlike many of the other posts, I did not think it was the worst movie ever....I believe it was the worst labeled movie ever. "Alien Uprising" should not have been the name of this film. it is misleading to what people would expect with a name like that. If these aliens look like people are/were living among us for so long I understand why that would be the name but, although I had seen a few people who were either aliens or people helping the aliens, I didn't actually see this as an uprising. The acting wasn't bad but the way this was shot needed improvement and made the acting look bad for instance, there is a shot of the blond girl against the wall in one scene wayyyyy to long before they cut to the next scene. Script wise it kinda sucked. If aliens are looking for you in a house and you know they are flying around a house why the hell would you turn on a flash light? Why would you need a flash light to look at a cell phone that has it's on light? When you come out the store why would two guys try to rob you of your goods when they could have just gone into the store??? When crazy dude came at you with the gun you should have killed him then and there you knew he was crazy. But no you want to "talk it out". How did that go??? Aliens wanted the radio hmmm. How did you know they wanted the radio Van Dammmm! Why would they want the radio, that was never explained. And to top it off this scared as hell guy throughout the entire film all of a sudden tries to rape the blond chick, his friend, and kill the soldier. AHHH Yeah, NO I'm not buying it. Gave it a 3 for some cheesy action. I think more entertaining was what people do to each other when they suspect something is going on, even though once again it was unrealistic. so you will be bored if you are not into the psychological part which is probably the first 1 hour of the film. After that it picks up a little. Usually between a script writer and director if one lacks something to make a film descent, one would pick up the slack. This is a classic case where both the script writing and directing were both mediocre. When you add sort of cheesy affects that's it! Your film is doomed.

The Man with the Iron Fists
(2012)

Over the top spraying blood, RZAs narration needs help
Before going to see this movie I read the reviews and the one thing that was consistent of most reviews was if you are into martial arts flicks than you will like this film. Now I grew up in the Northern New Jersey New York area where from the late 70s to the mid 80s we watched martial arts flicks every Saturday afternoon on wnyw station which would eventually turn into Fox, with movies like the 5 Deadly Venoms and other films by the Shaw Brothers, etc. Even now I own a large amount of Martial Arts flicks and I make it a point to watch these with my son every Saturday afternoon. So I went to see this film. I am GOING to give it 5 stars out of 10. I'm giving it 5 stars because Russell Crowe was excellent every time he was on screen. Byron Mann was great, funny, and bad all at the same time. Also Lucy Liu was good. The Film had a lot of action, sexy Asian women (can't go wrong with that), and had some pretty good sets full of props that made you feel like you were in China back in the 19th or early 20th century. I'm ONLY giving it 5 stars because outside of Russell Crowe, Byron Mann, and Lucy Lui the actors pretty much sucked. Although I know they tried to keep it in line with the traditional martial arts movies, the story line pretty much sucked. At first it was sort of confusing because it jumped around so quickly but eventually you settled into the film. The squirting blood was over the top which seems to be something Quentin Tarantino has been doing more of these days but it is so unrealistic I caught myself rolling my eyes at some of the scenes. Now I'm a big Wu-Tang Clan fan but the placement of the music in this film was terrible. I was almost embarrassed that the music I liked was placed in this film. It just did not fit the ambiance of the film. Also RZA's character…what was the point! It did not match the film's décor at all. Perhaps if they replaced him with someone who was Chinese maybe that would have made a difference…probably not. Also RZA narrates the film. Now many of us have speech impediments but I could not get passed his. RZA keeps pronouncing his "th"s like "d"s along with some other things. Now I do this as well but I host a radio show so I correct that when I'm on the air live he is being filmed so you would think he would correct that. So to sum this up 5/10 stars, the action sequences, Russell Crow, Lucy Lui, Byron Mann great. Story line, placement of music, over the top blood scenes, RZAs narration, RZAs character not great.

Skyline
(2010)

Was not a bad film
First off, I love plots, action and affects. There are many people on this forum giving this film low ratings. Honestly I thought the film was decent. That is up until the end. You had action, suspense, some of the characters got on your nerves but for the most part I thought it was a very interesting story line. but the end....What the hell??? I could not figure why it ended this way. The directors must have known the reaction they would have gotten from the audience. If the ending was decent I would have given this film a 7 but the ending was so awful I had to settle on a 6. OK wait a second. I had to go down to a 5 because although the affects were great and the acting was OK, some of the situations were unbelievable. So lets see, aliens come to earth to take human brains out as basically a heart for themselves? So...why when the brain was ripped from them how did they still move to rip a brain from someone else? A little weired there and if someone is pregnant the alien is going to wait until she gives birth so the alien can rip the baby's brain out and put the baby's brain into one of these creatures. Hmmm sounds fishy to me. Still I enjoyed it. Up until the end.

Unbreakable
(2000)

A Super hero before he becomes a super hero?
A few people I spoke with did not get this movie. I got it but only after the 3rd time watching it because truth be told, this movie is really about a superhero coming to be and accepting the fact that he is a Superhero. Now that statement alone is not saying much, I mean you look at Spiderman and Batman, as well as other DC comic heroes and the one thing that they all have in common is the superhero comes into existence but this is the fist time I have ever seen a movie that focuses on the development of the superhero solely. By the time he realizes what he is the movie ends. Therefore I truly wish there was a sequel. By the way I really like this film. M. Night Shyamalan directs a superb very odd film with barely any music in the background which makes the viewer rely more on the story in my opinion. The only survivor in a crash who brushes up against people and can view their terrible acts and than finds he is basically invincible (except for his weakness water) with super human strength is a brilliant plot. The evil Mr. Glass played by Samuel L.Jackson who you don't know he's evil until the end. I thought he was an artist with insight. M. Night Shyamalan was great to tackle heroism from this point of view because it has not been done before. I think this film is underrated because some people don't think in terms of becoming the superhero who always was but rather one who transforms into one because of some special event. But Once again I wish there was a sequel.

The Godfather
(1972)

The Best Movie
I am an avid gangster film collector. The Godfather is my favorite movie. I watch all three every six months. My mother introduced me to this when I was a teenager in the 80s and I was hooked. Paccino is my favorite actor and I think up until the mid 90s he was the best character actor who ever lived in his error. Mario Puzzo did a great rendition of the book although when you read the book there are some differences as there always is. Mike was that ruthless cunning boss who would not let anything go, even if it was his own brother! You can't help but wonder if his character was based on Carlo Gambino who was also cunning in how he worked his family.

Legends of the Fall
(1994)

What more can you want in a film.
This film is in my top five favorite films. What more can you want out of a movie??? Sure you have the triangle romance that's good OK that's good. But you also have WAR, GANGSTERS, COWBOYS, NATIVE Americans, BOTTLEGGING, MURDER. I mean people come-on! In my thirty something years I have NEVER seen a movie that had all of these elements in the same film. This film should have been nominated for so much more. The acting was superb so I don't understand how someone could say Anthony Hopkins didn't do his thing. I was a film major in college and I can truthfully say this film has many great elements and a great story. The cinematography alone and suspense is enough to keep you interested.

New Jack City
(1991)

Great Movie Bad Guys acted Better than Good Guys
First off I love this movie. It had all the action and Wesley snipes showed all the charisma a bad got can show. The progression from brotherhood to self centeredness as that life can do to you, the entrepreneur who becomes the addict, the way crack was came into the ghetto and destroyed neighborhoods (I was in the hood at the time so I can testify to this fact), the addict who gets better only to fall back into the life, there is so much about this film I love. Now having said that, there are some down points about the movie....The good guy's acting is horrible in this film with the exception of Mario Van Peebles who, just prior to this film was "Sunny Spoon" a TV show he basically developed his acting skills on (making note that his father is a director and I saw Mario in an early film "Sweet Back" so he's been acting awhile). This was Ice-T's first film and he was not good at all! Some scenes you had to down right laugh when you saw he such as when Mario Van Peeble's character went to ask him to join his group. He is a much better acting now since he's been in a few movies and now on Law & Order. Even worse than him was Judd Nelson. Also the lawyer for the prosecution was horrible which surprise me because I saw her in films before New Jack City and she was great and has been great after that. I really felt the bad guys carried this film. The Dudder man, Keisha, even Christopher William's Character with his small part was decent enough. This was a great film but not because of the good guys.

Disappearing Acts
(2000)

Good Film
A person commented that Wesley was no Franklin as compared to the book. But you have to ask the question, how many movies were made from books where you pictured the character from a book the same way he is portrayed in the book? That is why I see the movie first and than read the book. The other way around and I know I will not enjoy the movie. I loved this movie not just because I'm secretly in love with Sanaa but mainly because of the use of music to the scenes. I thought Wesley did a great job for the character he played but I do agree that the scenes went to fast. There should have been a little more build up to the first intimate scene. I wish I could meet a lady and turn her on like that lol. But seriously I loved this story which shows love isn't always smooth. But she should have been more upset at him for trashing her place.
