Chekka Chivantha Vaanam
(2018)

Remake of a Korean Movie
I personally believe that Mani Ratnam's last movie was Guru. Either he has forgotten direction or earlier works were not his.

Really he has run out of ideas and creativity, which is the very basis of art.

This movie has got a very poor screenplay and story telling. You will see the difference, when you watch the original version of the korean movie "New World". For the production house, Dubbing the original would have been a better idea.

If you are crazy about the star cast and cannot resist, wait for its digital telecast in next 1 week. It can't sustain beyond that.

SKIP IT, if you watched/heard about Special 26
When you watch Special 26, you will feel that there is no single protagonist in the movie. Every character in the movie was given a importance of a leading role.

Unfortunately in the Tamil version everything revolves around the hero. Its very sad state of affair. Movie should have been named as Surya :). I am not sure if directors have to compromise for the star dom.

Vignesh knows the trick to convert a serious movie to a commercial masala movie. The whole essence of the original movie is the essence of the real life feel. Not a single moment of the movie you will feel real.

Cinematography... is a consolation from Dinesh

On the one side creators produce next generation movies like Aruvi, Aramm and on other hand this is what you have got is this.

Aruvi
(2016)

A lifetime Experience
ARUVI A lifetime experience. A stirring poetry of comfort and conflict . Movie carefully but consistently travels between the montage and narrative movie patterns complimented by a strong non-linear screenplay. Movie heads to a climax of profound human connectedness but with a profound agony.

A Must watch.

Aruvi will leave a deep impact on its viewers. It may leave an impression, or nostalgia or a scar based on what kinda of a person you are. But this movie is not going to go way without making a mark in everyone's mind. Gift from a new kid in the block(Arun), to remind the world, TAMIL cinema is much ahead of "so called" progressive cinema in the spectrum of international film fraternity.

Mediocre Commercial Movie Substituted with a good Message
The intend of the entire crew is good and the message tried to deliver is new and novel. Absolutely no doubt about the intentions and thought process is really admirable.

Too many good characters but given very limited space. Siva's space should have been sliced out to other characters to throw more weight-age on the story telling. Unfortunately Director has failed on that aspect of planning. Moreover, movies should rely more on script, screenplay , story telling and content delivery. In those lines this is very mediocre typical commercial movie.

I wanted to rate 7, but with the quality movies Tamil Cinema has been producing lately its tough to rate as a good movie.

Happy New Year
(2014)

A BORING 70's kinda movie
Happy New Year movie was very disappointing.

A very lengthy movie which is barely entertaining. Just the introduction of characters happen for more than an hour. The team has misunderstood the phrase "entertainment movie" to be a sequence of outdated jokes bridged with dance sequences.

Though packed with quality actors, pathetic screenplay has ruined the movie. HNY is a typical evidence of poor screenplay and direction complimented with uninteresting jokes . Even Sharukh's "signature" dialogs could not help in the movie's rescue. The movie at one point becomes boring due to its predictability and lack of any degree of creativity.

I had taken my family with a hope of Sharukh in the lead role. We did witness few audiences exiting the screens in the middle of the movie. Please do pick the movie-to-watch based on directors and not actors. Or At least wait for the review before you book the tickets.

With marketing and international reach of movies like this, I am worried if the international audience would look down on Indian cinemas and build a wrong perception. Hope quality movies like Swades, Lagaan, Lunch Box…. with original story and screenplay too has a good reach.
