Godzilla
(2014)

Hey, look at all the... nods
I understand that there's a tendency to give a nod to someone or something once during a movie but... this movie is a nod fest, there's literally only 15 minutes of a godzilla movie. To list a couple nods and the time they take up, well more than a couple things, there's only one full monster fight, (a nod to the original godzilla movies), "let them fight" and the bland authoritative Japanese character who wears glasses and points sometimes(15min), godzilla walks out into the sunset per usual(5min) and oh right, the entire movie is a nod to radiation and giving power... somehow couldn't they have been a little more original? Like oh yeah, not just radiation, we had 20+ years to take samples and now we know its a two component mix and this will add to the plot.

Wait for it to be played on TNT at 2pm followed by a show at 5pm and 11pm, and then the next day at 2am.

Scryed
(2001)

nice original plot
While it does have some problems, like it didn't cut enough out -see episode 13 where some huge ambitions crash down and they ruin it with a cutscene of the catastrophe and 88 piece orchestra music, i mean, cut the episode 30 secs earlier to only see the guy realizing that everything he worked for come to pieces, that's enough. I really thought it lacked a lot of editing that went into more modern series, but the story was very original.

I found it amazing that they took the main character's antagonist and showed that he was actually a second protagonist by the end of the series. Along with the intrigue which is somewhat the main theme of the series, I can really feel the effort that went into the creation of the series. Also the music which varies quite a bit from big band style to electronica helps to contrast the clash of traditional values (which are Japanese) vs the newer values of the younger generation.

But i digress, the entire series is about blind ambition, the ambition of the mainland versus the ambition of people on the area of the lost ground, who basically are second class citizens of the mainland of japan. Scryed is a tragicomedy with its chief theme as ambition.

Princess of Mars
(2009)

not bad, easily better
Let me start off by saying, I only listened to about one chapter of the audio book, then like many things, I got bored, started listening to Asimov instead. I liked the movie, the pacing and storyline seemed to go pretty well, I was disgusted at some points with the bugs, found it funny when carter killed the guy that held his chains with just a flick of his wrist and loved the funny nature of the alien species that took him in. The movie could have potentially been great, had it not been for other factors.

Now, the other factors, in sequence, 1)gravity, mass, carter has to slow down in an arc and somehow stop himself jumping between peaks at the start

2) Do not have a shot of a slow moving hovering land barge with an entire paragraph of dialogue being said by an actor

3) do not have a long drawn out escape from the land barge during the initial vicious attack of the land barge

4)the flying bug attacks on Traci lords, we see her swarmed, but as we know, not actually swarmed because the hero's woman does not get injured, they should have simply surrounded the cage and freaked her out, way more plausible

5)the martians somehow got outside the climate control station?

6) I was very confused about the atmosphere effect at the end, going away? coming back? they looked reversed, it was only when i saw the second graphic that I went "oh the first one is the atmosphere going away"

Anyway, alright movie, just be ready for things beyond your control

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
(2010)

fun
I actually watched this movie based off of the other reviews here. I have to say I was impressed, they took the overused "You're a lower class person and I'm better than you so you should kill me" plot and turned it around perfectly. You're purposely mislead into thinking that you will be following the pretty manicured 21-22 aged immature college kids around for the entirety of the movie, see black guy die first, premarital sex cases die 3rd and the virgin somehow surviving due to the magical whiffle bat they were carrying, but, no, the heroes of the movie are the rednecks just trying to get by. Its actually quite fun to watch, the kids are after them thanks to their hero leader who goes invader zim on them and decides his minions should just throw themselves at the poor guys, which is just fun to watch as dale and tucker keep having to come up with plausible reasons to everything the kids try to accomplish.

8/10 bc i think there could have been more jokes and possibly better pacing and explanation with the kids
